Facility

43 single rooms and 34 double rooms are located on 12 storeys and can be reached by lift. Guests are warmly welcomed by English-speaking staff at the 24-hour reception desk in the lobby.     What a fabulous hotel! We came of a cruise early morning but the hotel allowed us early check in at 9 am so we didn’t even have to store our luggage and then return. It was also a late checkout with the following morning. The staff at the door were so professional and welcoming helping us throughout our time, engaging in conversation despite some language barriers … we don’t speak Spanish. It had its own restaurant … so convenient when we didn’t want to dine elsewhere and breakfast included. So close to shopping and malls and very safe. Yes we had to walk maybe 200m from where the taxi dropped us off but we knew where we were going thanks to the driver. The bed was comfy, room spacious, pillows great, bathroom wonderful.

    The location of the Howard Johnson's on Florida Street is fantastic. It was an easy walk to many bars, restaurants, and tourist sites like the Obelisk. The staff was very nice snd attentive. They were very happy to help with anything we needed, including money exchange. Their rate was almost as good as the dollar blue rate and we felt much safer than exchanging on Florida Street. The staff recommended Tango Portena as the best Tango show and we LOVED the show. The hotel got us a much better rate than we could get anywhere else, including hotel pick up. We had phenomenal seats and the food was great. Breakfast was included everyday and was fairly good. We ate one dinner at the hotel and we enjoyed it. The hotel is fairly small and a little dated, but the location, staff, and cleanliness more than make up for that. We enjoyed the smaller, more intimate feel. If we had one complaint, it would be that the bed was not very comfortable.

    In arriving, you can’t have your driver bring you to the hotel itself in that no cars are permissible on Florida. So one needs to walk - not far- @ a half block. Doorman friendly. Front desk polite and business like. Positive: it’s located in arts district which is exciting and vibrant. Also a number of nice restaurants and cafes in walking distance. The room we stayed in was large but I must say I was extremely disappointed with the following: the mattress was quite uncomfortable as was the bed linen - very scratchy. The pillows felt like bricks. Definitely time for new bedding and new mattresses. The towels in bathroom were also very dingy. Neither of the chairs in the room were comfortable. No English channels on TV. The hotel felt to me a bit threadbare. Would not choose to stay in future.

    Start with the location. It's on a pedestrian mall (your cab can't get you to the door, but it's not a far walk from the drop off point, and there is parking nearby if you have a car). The included breakfast is very good and efficient. The rooms are large and comfortable. The down local is great, the pedestrian mall means it's quiet, and there are many nearby restaurants for some GREAT steak and wine. Very close to subway stop (don't be afraid, it's easy) and bus (cheap). And the money system sounds weird and scary, but it's not. If you take cash out of the ATM you get the official rate, which is pretty cruddy. But if you BRING U.S. dollars or Euro ($100 bills in excellent condition get the highest rate) you get about double the official rate, which means everything you buy in cash is "half price." You walk down the pedestrian mall (Florida Street, right outside the door of the hotel) and you'll have lots of people saying "cambio, cambio, cambio" ... change, change, change. You nod and agree, they'll walk you to an office around the corner somewhere, and you'll get the "blue market" rate, the "double the government market rate" ... It's very safe, nobody is blowing their reputation to rip you off for a few hundred bucks. You can even pay the Howard Johnson in cash, and they hint at that, to get your hotel half price. This works. The only downside of this hotel is they only have 2 elevators (12 stories) and one was broken half the time, so it can take a while to get up and down. Overall, good experience.

    Obnoxious party hotel

    When we checked in I was very pleased. The hotel is nice and in a great location. The staff is very pleasant. As I write this review it is 3:13 am and I haven’t slept a wink. It seems the hotel cares more about the parties they host than the health and well being of their guests. A party has been raging for hours. After a call and a visit to the desk in my pajamas from 2-3 am the party continues. They turned it down a few decibels but I can still hear it. I’m contemplating going directly to the party in my pjs to scream at them to stop the f.g noise. Do not stay here unless you enjoy being up all night. After traveling 30 hours to get here and trying to see what we can of this beautiful city before cruising we are exhausted and in need of a good nights sleep. This is not the place to do that. If you are in need of rest and don’t want to gamble on losing sleep, don’t stay here. Stay at another more reputable establishment. There are lots more of them.For Wyndham timeshare owners, it’s not worth taking the 60% hit on your points to exchange them for Rewards points to stay at this establishment. You’ll be sadly disappointed.
