  Strong moldy smell, had to book alternative accommodations

  I’m genuinely shocked by the positive reviews for this hotel. The hotel had a strong moldy, musky, smoky smell the moment we walked in — it was difficult to breathe. I smelled it as soon as we walked into the lobby. We went up to our room, and I was up all night coughing and realized there was no way I could stay six nights in these conditions. The furniture was old and damaged, and we even found bugs inside the kitchen cabinet. The whole place feels extremely dated and poorly maintained. I didn’t even feel comfortable sitting on the bed, let alone sleeping in it.Because of the conditions, we immediately booked alternative accommodations out of our own pocket.We spoke to Sarah at the front desk in the morning, who was very kind at first and repeatedly told us there would be no problem getting a refund or asked if we wanted to see another room as an alternative. As soon as we mentioned we didn’t want another room and had booked elsewhere, the messaging changed completely. Suddenly it became, “That’s up to the reservations department,” and everything she had originally reassured us about was reversed. It felt like false hope and a frustrating run-around at a time when we were already dealing with a hotel we couldn’t stay in.The issue was the overall air quality and the strong smell — not a single room (although the room was in horrible condition). She mentioned it could be due to dusty carpets and suggested we go to a pharmacy for asthma medication, which didn’t feel like a reasonable solution for a hotel stay we paid for? On vacation? Also if you’re admitting the carpets are dusty, perhaps it’s time to clean them.In the end, we lost our money and our time, and spent a night struggling to breathe in an uncomfortable, dirty space, despite returning the room after only 1 of 6 nights.Also, the room was advertised as having a coffee machine — that’s not true.Stay away — this was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had. A customer-focused hotel would try to find a reasonable solution or at least offer a partial refund considering we gave the room back after 1 of 6 nights.

  Misleading Advertising on Expedia – Not a 4-Star Hotel, No Refund Given

  I booked Bens Hotel Recoleta Park through the Expedia platform, where it was advertised as a four-star hotel and rated as “exceptional.” Based on that information, I expected a comfortable and well-maintained stay.Unfortunately, the reality was completely different. The hotel had a strong unpleasant smell, was clearly deteriorated and falling apart, and the beds were sinking and uncomfortable. The overall condition of the property was far below even basic hotel standards, let alone a four-star rating.Before booking, I also checked TripAdvisor and watched a YouTube video promoting the hotel as clean, nice, and livable. That video is highly misleading and does not reflect the actual condition of the hotel at all.Because the accommodation was unacceptable, we checked out the next day, returned the keys, and informed the staff. Despite staying only one night, the hotel charged us for all six nights and refused to provide any refund or partial refund.This experience was deeply disappointing and felt misrepresented across multiple platforms. I would strongly advise future travelers to be cautious and not rely solely on the advertised ratings or promotional videos.

  PERFECT HOTEL

  Perfect area near French Embassy excellent for walking in this nice neighborhood. Very kind young man let us into our room early and offered help which we used when needing some kitchen stuff. Breakfast was great and had all kind of coldcuts, cheese, eggs, fruit....Thank you for making our stay nice and safe.

  The hotel is in an excellent location within walking distance to many sites. The room was spacious and clean, there was a table and chairs for dining and a very small kitchen. Although there was a two ring cooker there was no way to cook other than the microwave. Breakfast was good and plentiful.

  Great location! Right in the middle of everything. Bakeries and cafes galore. Next to a pharmacy. Grocery within a block. Easy walk to cemetery and craft market.Rooms are good size with fridge and microwave. Even a stove. Breakfast is good- standard Argentinian breakfast buffet. Staff are helpful. Everything very clean but could use a refresh. Many signs of wear and tear. For instance our room must have had a leak at some point and the floor was warped and pulling up in one spot. This did not affect our enjoyment but if you are looking for posh, this probably isn't it.
