Alto Calafate Hotel Patagonico - Above and Beyond

    rating23 Mar 2026

During our trip to El Calafate, our original hotel was unable to accommodate a change in our itinerary. Our travel agent suggested two alternative options, one of which was Alto Calafate Hotel Patagonico. We weren’t sure what to expect. On the way to the hotel, our driver mentioned that it was the oldest hotel in El Calafate and that we would be well taken care of. We were curious but reserved judgment.Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Esteban Ruppel. The hotel, while older, was very clean and had a pleasant reception area. Esteban personally checked us in and even stepped away from the desk to give us a brief introduction to the hotel. Because we had booked last minute, we initially had two rooms with Queen beds each. I asked Esteban if it might be possible to change one of our rooms to have two twin beds, fully expecting a firm no—but instead, he did some checking and came to our door to let us know the change was accommodated. From that moment on, our experience was wonderful. The hotel was always clean, and the staff consistently went above and beyond to help. Esteban Ruppel, Valentina Britez, Valentin Pecovich, Maura DiCola, and the many other friendly staff members made our stay truly memorable. The rooms and hotel were spotless, the hilltop location offered amazing views, and they provided convenient transportation to the city center each afternoon. Breakfast was excellent and a perfect start to each day.Even though we had no idea what to expect from this last-minute change, we were pleasantly surprised. We are completely satisfied with our stay and highly recommend Alto Calafate Hotel Patagonico. Thank you, Esteban, Valentina, Valentin, and Maura—you made our stay unforgettable!

    Could do better

    rating08 Feb 2026

The reception area and the dining room were well appointed. The bedroom was old fashioned and in need of an upgrade. Shower over bath, minimal toiletries. Only 2 teabags and no coffee in the room. Seemed to have “rules”, no you can’t have a drink in the lovely lounge only sit on a dining chair in the restaurant. Wouldn’t lend us a corkscrew even though we were happy to pay corkage. Staff were pleasant but seemed to have to defer to a higher authority. Unable to make recommendations or book a nail bar. Just felt a bit military and unhelpful. Please pay your bill mid stay, only allowed a small amount on credit. We had 1 dinner and a lunch. Seems odd for a hotel that says it’s 4 star. Never happened to us before. Free shuttle to town is a great service. Breakfast standard, cooked didn’t inspire.

The best Hotel of my trip

    rating10 Jan 2026

This hotel was other thing. Very proffesional and proper staff. I was just amazed how them received you (and when I tell them that includes the bartender, the chauffeur of the shuttle to downtown, the hosekeeping) with a full orientation of all the amenities. I just was in shock. But thinking about it, this is the way the Hotels should welcome their customers. I was a Custumer Service District Manager and they just did what they are supposed to do. Congrats to all that staff!!!! Oh!, and they were all very young people! Thanks for a great stay.Special thanks to Matías, he was my bartender, mi paño de lágrimas, my friend for just two days. Gracias.

    Patagonia Retreat

    rating09 Jan 2026

I almost cancelled my booking when I read a recent review. I'm glad I didn't as this is an excellent hotel choice if visiting Patagonia. I arrived early and had lunch at the hotel restaurant. My room was ready before I finished my lunch. The hotel is nicely appointed and offers sweeping lake views. There are also views of the mountains and fiends with wild horses. As a tea lover, I appreciate the kettle and two tea cups with tea bags and sugar in the room. My reservation included free breakfast buffet which was adequate. Desserts and their presentation make this feel like a five star hotel. The gym, sauna, steam showers, pool and massage (fee) are added bonuses. The staff is particularly friendly and attentive. The free shuttle to town also a plus. Really enjoyed my stay here!

    Horrible hotel!!!

    rating19 Dec 2025

We booked this hotel on Expedia based on the photos. Photos must be at least 10 years old. When we drove up to the hotel it looked abandoned. Paint peeling off the building, weeds everywhere and clearly no recent landscaping maintenance. I couldn't figure out how I was able to book this place if it was out of business. My wife said lights were on inside so it might be open. Got out of the car to go check it out. She was right, despite all appearances the place was still open. I went up to front desk and asked if i could see the room. Clerk responded that it was not possible. Against my better judgment, we still checked in. (We had prepaid for 3 nights and I just figured it would be easier than to try to get our money back.) Room was terrible and carpet was extremely dirty. We grabbed our luggage and left. Ended up at Montano Boutique Suites a few minutes away. Room was half the price and 10 times nicer!
