    Beautiful Art Deco

I loved my stay here! The hotel is beautifully decorated and feels like jumping right into the 1920’s. Staff was great and so was the location.

    Very disappointed

Necessary basics for any decent hotel are there: clean, comfortable, space to move but beds a little hard. After having trouble navigating the QR code room service menu I dialled for assistance as instructed by the TV. Rang the shown 'assistance' number twice - no answer. Ended up using the external line to see if I could raise anyone, again trying twice. No answer. Went down to find the only person on the desk was with someone so I went to the restaurant and was cooly greeted when I described my situation, stating I just wanted to cancel the order altogether. Next morning we discovered the crowded and understaffed breakfast area - strange considering a conference was on so one would think management would know enough to increase staff due to this. The area looks great, on several levels but the buffet area is dangerously cramped resulting in two spills we witnessed as people tried to navigate by each other with plates of food. The servers maintained a personable and friendly attitude despite the fact that they were severely outnumbered. We won't be returning and if you decide to do so, I wish you well but I strongly suggest you go elsewhere for breakfast at least.

    Playford Hotel Adelaide

Our room was well appointed and comfortable. The highlight though was the Luma Restaurant, the meals were excellent and the staff attentive including the Chef who came to the table to explain what was being served. I would also like to compliment the trainee waiter (Jost?) who had provided great personal service. Note, our room faced south therefore we had a view of a car park roof, north facing rooms would look over North Rd and the entertainment precinct and parks

Four stars Australian, 2.8 stars international

A 'good' hotel in Australia is a specific category. We don't have a tradition or culture of service ( as they do in Asia or the U.S ) so in this light I write this review. This hotel has a modern art noveau design which is beautiful and enjoyable every time you enter. The room was beautiful and has a restful restricted colour palette. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom is beautiful and the toiletry products are high end and plentiful. The armoir/bar/ coffee station was well equipped and when we asked for green tea as it was absent they supplied it right away. The pool/gym in the basement is clean and well appointed. The gym is particularly well eqipped. I wish the spa ran for longer than a few minutes but it was deep and a good hot temperature. Like many high end businesses these days there is an over reliance on self serve. I was sent an on line check in form before arrival. The form listed me as 'Mr' and did not allow me to alter incorrect details including its claim that my email was incorrect. This was the exact same email they sent the form to so it couldn't have been wrong. Upon arrival the staff were nice but a little befuddled when I asked for my breakfast buffet to be charged to the room before my bags were delivered as it was still being cleaned. After a little mild panic I was provided with a note to sign for the charge to the room. Unlike Swiss hoteliers who 'paddle fiercly underwater while appearing to glide smoothly along the surface, Australians let you see every frisson of perturb, alarm and confusion. We have no sense of the 'performance' of service in this country. The breakfast buffet was nice but neither the food nor the coffee was hot. The buffet is up a flight of stairs and a tight space so no one with mobility issues could access it themselves. Upon arrival I was given a piece of paper containing two QR codes: one for room service menu and th other to join the loyalty program. I scanned the menu code but it kept sending me to the wrong site. When I called downstairs to get help the assistant suggested I try another code at which point I explained that now their system was causing me 'work' and I had not come here to do work. Amazing I had to articulate that. A menu was sent up to the room within minutes. I wonder if asking the customer if they want a printed menu at check in might give the guest more choice. I discovered when talking to two ladies in the pool that I was paying $200 more a night than they. This leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. The other time I paid this much was at the Marina Bay Sands, a far more luxurious hotel. All in all on my adapted Australian scale of 'she'll be right' service, I enjoyed this hotel very much. If you are looking for affordable five star service in a three star hotel try the Mandarin Oriental in Kula Lumpar. It's the best service I have ever had and I've had the good fortune to stay at some incredible places across my life. So I give this hotel 4 stars Australian, 2.8 stars international.
