Beware the noise from nearby construction/road works

    rating28 Aug 2025

Booked a one night stay and chose Abbey on Roma as its close to public transport. Being from out of town, we weren't aware of all the road works /construction happening on Roma St. The noise was persistent (all night!) and LOUD (jackhammering etc); it kept us awake most of the night. Unfortunately it's not mentioned on the Abbey on Roma website, and the room rates don't seen to be discounted to factor in the disturbance. No complimentary water (not even a water jug in the fridge). No complimentary ear plugs. The room was reasonably clean and the bed was comfortable enough.

    Worst place I’ve ever stayed

    rating20 Jul 2025

Undoubtedly the WORST place I have ever stayed. We were supposed to stay here for 4 nights but left after 1 because in the light of day we realised just how horribly dirty and disgusting this place is. - sofa resembled road-kill- curtains half hanging off and stained in what looked like blood (maybe from Road-kill sofa?!) - walls, air vents, bathroom vents etc disgracful - floors so nasty, I couldn’t take my shoes off - exposed duvet stained- upside down wall-mounted tumble dryer - random- space between washing machine and wall absolutely filthy - chipped furniture Overall, a horrible place. Think I may have developed PTSD after staying here for just one night! It’s not even cheap so don’t consider even as a budget stay Booked via booking.com

AVOID AT ALL COSTS - FILTHY & DISGUSTING

    rating09 Jul 2025

The hotel was disgusting. Pure and simple, it was filthy. None of the ledges had been cleaned, skirtings were covered in dust, the room had an awful smell of cigarette smoke, the walls were marked. The room I was in (804) had a hole in the wall which I reported right away, the reaction....."so sorry", I said "did you want to document it?" , "yes, yes I get to it" she said. The reception was unmanned for over 15 minutes & all this time, 3 poor Asian tourists couldn't access there baggage even though they were constantly trying to phone the receptionist- who had gone a.w.o.l, no note saying where or when she would be back- as they had a train to catch, it was ridiculous. They even have the cheek to tell you to take your rubbish out to the bins outside or face a fine in the shape of a fee! The entrance door to the room had paint peeling of it- as did the other doors in the hallway. The hallway had paint peeling off the walls, scuff marks, chunks out the wall, hallway carpet was filthy....It was disgusting. Light switch covers were missing, air vents were filthy, glass tables cleaned with dirty clothes. No fitted sheets on the bed. I would hate to think what the bed looks like under a blue light! The sauna, while it was a decent size, had a warning sign inside, saying "danger" but because it had bits broken off and most of the writing was illegible, you had no idea what the warning was, plus there was no alarm in the pool/sauna area. Rip off!

    rating26 Aug 2024

Initially I tried booking 3 rooms. (Travelling with extended family) Was originally quoted $270 for each room. After accepting this quote ( by phone) and giving my credit card details I was informed only one room was now available at that price and the price of the other two rooms had now jumped to $450 each. When I said to cancel all bookings as that was too expensive I was then told my $270 booking was already processed and was non refundable. At that point I was furious but decided to go ahead on my own only to discover the dump that awaited me. So bad that I walked straight out and moved to another hotel. I couldn’t facesitting on the stained sofa let alone sleeping in the bed. The bathroom fittings were old and grubby and I noticed the shower head was hanging by a thread. Not what I would call a hotel. More like a lot of grotty old flats.

Its more a apartment block than a hotel-

    rating22 Feb 2024

My biggest gripe is that it was hard to check in after hours. There was intercom that didnt seem to work- just arrived on international and phone didnt work . Luckily somebody went past who was able to help me. Also i found all the messages about fines for losing key cards and a host of other things a little unwelcoming. besides all that the room was fine and well equipped.
