Location

This hotel is ideally located in the heart of the city, adjacent to the Treasury Casino and a 1-minute walk from Brisbane River. Facility

The hotel welcomes guests in a 14-storey building with a lift and 99 non-smoking rooms. The reception desk is open round the clock.     A great hotel at a great price in Brisbane’s CBD. We had an unserviced twin room overlooking George Street and we didn’t hear any noise from the street below. The room was clean, spacious, beds were comfortable, the shower was excellent and tea and coffee was provided. The continental breakfast for $10 was excellent, the staff were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble in making our stay a pleasant one. Star Casino was directly opposite, Neville Bonner Bridge, North Quay Ferry, Queen Street Mall all were within a few minutes walking distance and all public transport fares were 50 cents. The hotel was being renovated on several floors and the hotel advised us of this before we arrived but the noise was minimal. I definitely recommend this great hotel.     Great Southern sojourn up north - wonderful!

    Having, of necessity, had to suddenly source accommodation in Brisbane for 4 days, we lucked upon The Great Southern Hotel where, without exception, all staff (and even the builders undertaking the renovations) were - welcoming, helpful, friendly and accommodating. The location was most convenient - to South Bank (Art Galleries/Museum etc). / Botanic Gardens / Shops / Transport and more. Well done everyone - we'll be back when next in BNE.     Brilliant proximity to South Bank via the Neville Bonner pedestrian bridge just over the road

    Good value for price - clean, comfortable, friendly helpful staff. Best thing about it is the new pedestrian bridge, the Neville Bonner bridge that goes to South Bank from the casino just over the road from the hotel. Easy access to South Bank - and to the South Brisbane railway station for trains to/from the airport.     A big disappointment

    Before booking, we noted on the website that the hotel had ongoing construction work. We were not concerned about this, as we have stayed at this property several times over the past five years and were aware that renovations have been taking place for at least three of those years. On previous occasions, the work was minor — we could hear some activity and see a bit of dust, but it never caused any real inconvenienceHowever, during this most recent stay, the situation was unacceptable. For three consecutive mornings, from around 8 a.m., there was intense drilling and hammering directly on the wall of our bedroom and the room next to ours. The noise was extremely loud and completely disrupted our stay.We complained to reception each morning, speaking with three different staff members on separate days, as well as the hotel manager. Each time, we were assured that the issue would be resolved, but nothing was done, and the drilling and hammering continued throughout our stay.This trip was meant to be a four-day break to celebrate my husband’s 87th birthday, and it was very disappointing to have the experience spoiled by such intrusive noise. While we understand that renovation work is sometimes necessary, it is entirely unreasonable to place guests in rooms immediately adjacent to active construction areas — particularly when management and multiple staff members are made aware of the issue and fail to act.We emailed the head office and booking.com with this complaint with no reply from either.
