    Mixed experience

    rating23 Apr 2026

Hotel and facilities were of a good standard for a stopover on a trip up the East Coast. However on arrival met by a receptionist who was not welcoming and gave a poor impression of the hotel. Dinner in the restaurant was disappointing and not what you expect in a 4 star + hotel. The waiter was unhelpful and requests had to be repeated on a number of occasions. Breakfast was poor value, with dried out pastries and an extra charge for barista coffee. The young receptionist on day 2, was however extremely helpful and engaging and should be commended for that.

    NOISY

    rating24 Feb 2026

Whatever you do avoid rooms overlooking the pool. Noisy all the time up to 10.00pm when there were still idiots in the pool chatting. Never again

Enjoy the sun and the pool

    rating16 Feb 2026

As part of our road trip in NSW, we made a stop in Port Macquarie staying at Sails. The last few days has been rainy. It was so lovely to finally see the sun and we spent some time enjoying the pool. Overall friendly and efficient service. The room facing the beautiful garden is very comfortable. Breakfast at the Boathouse facing the pier is relaxing, with adequate variety. Do note there is extra charge for the barrister coffee. Also extra for parking which is managed by ´external vendor’. Within walking distance, there are other dinning and shopping options. Though many restaurants are closed on Mondays. It’s about 15min walk from town centre.

    Stingey and inconsistent

    rating13 Jan 2026

We were initially impressed by Sails with its look and ideal location overlooking the marina, the receptionist, Adelaide, was lovely and accommodating. The room we were allocated (A$500) was overlooking the car park so we changed it for one looking over the marina which was another A$60 per night. The pool was OK, bar area fine but the restaurant was, in keeping with the rest of our stay, inconsistent. The older lady at breakfast was hostile as were the staff behind the counter- how dare we ask for breakfast bowls! We ate here for one evening and it was all a bit hurried as, clearly, they wanted to shut at 8.30. And as for the bar it was shut after our meal even though it was advertised as being open "12pm til late" guys- 9pm isn't late unless you're under 5.At check out we were charged A$4.50 for a bottle of water from the room and A$15 per day for parking- very stingey and not what we had experienced after 3 weeks in Australia.

    Just not good enough

    rating03 Jan 2026

I had previously stayed at a Sails Hotel and didn’t like it but the travel agent said this one was good. He was wrong. It’s at the marina but also next to an industrial estate so the approach is not great and it’s kind of miles from the town and the beaches. So not a great start. Our first interaction was with a surly, bored receptionist who almost relished telling us that the car park was an extra $15 and only lasted until 1pm the next day. No concierge so hefting our own luggage up to the second floor to discover our room overlooked the salubrious car park where at 6am the next morning we were woken by the sound of delivery Lorrie’s reversing. The room itself is like a Premier Inn. Functional without being either interesting or luxurious but ok. The restaurant was also functional- our steaks weren’t great but they weren’t awful. The real killer was that they shut the bar at 9pm. On a Saturday night. When challenged they said they usually closed around that time because there were no customers. Except there was is but we didn’t seem to count. Breakfast was another one from left field. When arriving you get asked if you want to pay extra for barista coffee or whether the standard stuff is ok for you. Unbelievable. This hotel chain probably thinks they’re good. They’re not. Almost all the staff are morose and unhelpful. The checkout lady was at least cheerful but kind of spoiled it by trying to charge us again for the prepaid breakfast. I shall be having words with the travel agent for putting us in here and I won’t make the mistake of using a Sails again.
