    Good value

    rating25 Apr 2026

The pros: Quiet, good water pressure, very nice size for the price. Comfortable bed. Whirlpool bath was a BIG plus. Nice terrace. Beach towels available to rent. The cons: No microwave and nowhere to eat except the terrace which, if it is raining, is a big problem. You'd literally have to take the tables and chairs into the (quite large) bathroom. Overall the room was a bit run-down: 2 of the whirlpool jets didn't work, dirty curtains, etc. But we really did enjoy our stay.

Do not stay here as there is no 4 star hotel experience. It is an outdated motel experience

    rating29 Dec 2025

This hotel was more like an Airbnb with no customer service. Does not accommodate early check in, charges $120 for room lockouts, spa dos not have hot water, no staff on site to help during Christmas holidays as business hours are only a few hours in the morning. I will never stay here again. Kim S, General Manager at Regal Port Douglas, responded to this review Dear knds80,We’d like to clarify a few points for accuracy. Regal Port Douglas is holiday accommodation, not a hotel, and operates accordingly. Reception hours during low season are Monday–Friday 8:30am–5:00pm and Saturday–Sunday 9:00am–12:00pm. On-site managers are available seven days a week; however, after-hours call-outs may incur a fee except in genuine emergencies. No $120 charge was applied, as stated in your review. The property operates on a central boiler system, meaning all apartments receive hot water simultaneously, so it would not be possible for one unit alone to have no hot water.Your stay began on a Saturday (27/12/25), and although check-in is from 2:00pm, you were offered - and accepted - a complimentary early check-in, as recorded by our after-hours service.Check in is available 24hrs per day due to the After Hours service.

dreadful customer service at Regal port Douglas during 5 night stay October 2025

    rating06 Nov 2025

Well now, a few weeks have passed since I last stayed at the Regal Port Douglas. My partner and I stayed for 5 nights from 17/10/25 to 22/10/25.Being very fair in my critique of the place I will start with the good things,Great location, Beds were very comfortable ( if u like hard firm beds )Pool was very nice and inviting. The middle aged woman and young female at reception were very accommodating and helpful( pity the male manager named John/James wasn't so )Things that could improve, Assistance to some of the elderly that struggled to climb the stairs with heavy bags, some of which I assisted. Reception never offered ANY assistance, poor service!Dangerous WH & S situations I observed on a daily basis, ( Spilt water on stairs leading up to first floor from reception level ) No yellow safety signs were in place!Fire extinguishers were a bit over a week due from being pressure tested and stamped. Having a background in WH & S, I just want to remind the managers that you have NO elevators and a large percentage including myself are over 60 and some are 80, fire hazards are always present. Just a reminder to get them tested. As we age we don't move that quick in the case of an emergency! No disability parking spots in the ground car park ( is this custom and practice in Queensland? If so I stand corrected )Upon arrival I checked in and was greeted by staff, which was nice.I had to bring to notice to the male manager ( john/James ) that the TV remote was faulty. He then aggressively said to me " What have you done to it "That was unprofessional and weird. When I requested a new, remote he, said "No." Secondly no complementary bottle of wine in the fridge as per the Aldi itinerary summary. The male manager argued that it had been placed in there, I had to correct him. He did in fact attend the studio indoor spa unit fridge and saw it wasn't there.Upon returning to the reception he supplied me with the bottle and stated the following " They're hopeless" obviously referring to his staff or whoever. Unprofessional indeed. Im going to attach a picture of a dangerous slippage situation in the studio apartment spa bath which was brought to management staff several times ( also by email ) and ignored. We remedied the slippage as best we could as my partner suffered a bad fall after slipping on water overflow that pooled and flowed on the floor directly at the exit point of the shower. We requested two additional bathroom mats to keep the exit entry from the spa/shower safe. The first mat we obtained from the cleaner on site. The male manager then attended and spoke very aggressively to my partner stating the following " I told you you dont get replacement mats as it's mid week towel replacements here" or words similar. Highly Unprofessional as we brought the slippage situation to his attention. Not even interested in doing an internal check of this dangerous matter. Wow, that was unbelievable!!It gets better.....keep reading and sorry for the length. The second time we had to ask the cleaner for a mat to mop up and soak the water overflow pooled floor bound from the shower once again, this was met with two loud aggressive knocks. The first knock I couldn't get to the door as my back was sore and I was resting . The second knock was really loud. It was a little unsettling. I was then greeted by John/ James who stated the second mat we obtained from the cleaner would BE TAKEN OUT MY ACCOUNT !@@@@.Need I say any more. Not too sure but we checked with friends also on the Aldi tour and they're units had microwaves. We didn't have one. It would have helped with heating food. Maybe management can comment on the lack of a microwave.??I have lodged a formal complaint with ALDI Holidays and have spoken to Michael ( holds a supervisor role I believe in Regal Port Douglas ).Funny apart from the ALDI support customer manager no one has even given us a phone call to see how my partner Carol is going?? Unbelievable terrible customer service!!I have held a position in Government oversighting teams of up to 40 staff on any given day for over 40 years. Im now retired! To be candidly honest the entire stay was a similar remake to the Old Faulty Towers Series, Haha!!In summation I just wanted to say this" John/James the male manager, dont be so mean, my partner had a fall and we only needed a floor bath mat to make the safe place " A follow up phone call also on my partners situation would have been good. NOTHING !@@Sort of reminds me of a comment made years ago by NSW blues NRL captain Paul Gallon.. " Some people up there born with two heads or something"All my family reside in Queensland by the way and I love Queensland and 99.9 percent of the people are lovely and decent, just like the nice folk in Port Douglas! As a suggestion to the male manager James or john/ whoever, with 40 years in customer relations behind me I feel qualified to say this to you and please dont take umbrage " mate you in the wrong job" get a job where you have minimal customer interaction like a job on permanent nightshift or similiar"Have a pleasant Day and please dont respond as it won't be read 🙂
