  There was a change of ownership after we booked. We hadn't realised that Bounce as it's now called was more of a backpackers environment. We'd booked a cabin with private facilities. It was by the pool, carpark and bar. The bed was comfortable but the cabin was looking tired. The hand basin was tiny. We were pleased to have some private outside space. The bar was very popular with the mainly younger guests and for us with paper thin cabin walls it was very noisy. Everything closed at 10pm but many guests stayed around for some time afterwards, shouting. We were told the only koala experience was first thing in the morning and included breakfast. We were disappointed as we'd planned to go on the Forts walk before it became too hot. We later found out there was a lunchtime event but because we didn't know we missed it.

  Lovely little treasure on Magnetic Island. We were able to hire the whole 'dorm' for the three of us (sleeps 6) and found it comfortable and clean. The reception, bar and communal areas were relaxing. All the staff were helpful and friendly! Definitely recommend the on-site Koala/Meet the resident animals tour - our guide, Bailey, was really informative and kind - you could tell she cared about the animals and preserving their quality of life (Pebble the sleepy Koala was BEYOND cute, as well as their resident blind Koala, forgot her name and sleepy Thor). Thank you Bailey for guiding us around! At 4:15pm, another plus is they feed the birds and that was special too - especially when I had x2 parakeets chowing down on my hand!! All in all, would really like to come back to Maggie and stay again at Selina

  An experience like no other

  The hostel is located around a 25 minute bus ride from the SeaLink terminal. The bus costs around 50p for a single journey and they accept card. There is a bus stop right outside, but keep an eye out for tourists speeding around as you cross the road. We had a twin private room - which was located in a secluded cabin. The toilets and shower are a short walk away. TIP: Do not leave your cabin light on if you open the door at night, as we had some unwelcome visitors fly in. The bathrooms were always clean and they provide shampoo, conditioner and wash. They also have a clothes washing area, I think it was around 6 AUD per wash and dry. We didn't get any Wifi reception from the room. The air conditioning was great - very very cold (which was needed!). The beds were standard, not too fancy but not awful - just right! We ate at the hostel most nights, as we found it to work out as cheaper than going to the food shop and buying/cooking food every day. The food and drinks were nice and reasonably priced. Look out for cheeky birds that want to eat your dinner, though! The pool was a great way to beat the heat. We booked to go to the wildlife center that attaches to the hostel and had a great time - we saw all kinds of animals and it was brilliant. The only thing that slightly sucked is there are no air conditioned common areas to beat the heat, and the cabins are tiny so you can't really spend much time in them.We had great fun on the island, we recommend doing fort's walk (early or late in the day as the heat becomes sweltering and the koala's are only active at these times). We also went to Horseshoe bay to watch the sunset (amazing!). The butterfly walk was a bit rubbish as we saw nothing. I would recommend hiring a car (which we didn't), as waiting for the bus kind of sucked in the heat.

  Extremely overrated. Lovely accommodation but events and organisation was awful.

  To say this hostel is overrated would be very fair. I stayed with my girlfriend and we loved being at one with nature. We cannot fault the room and the kitchen/ bar area. They are great social areas.The bird feeding activity would have been fun if we’d have seen any. The hotel lets itself down when it comes down to the organisation and events. The hostel is out of the way. We used buses to get around so having the bus stop out the front was ideal. We were promised free welcome drinks each night and we didn’t have any either night as we were told it was ‘understaffed.’ Don’t advertise something if you can’t put the events on!There was also a bingo event however it was tiresome and boring- rather than entertaining like Nomads. The happy hour and food was good. However food took an hour to arrive after ordering which wasn’t good enough. Really disappointed although I cannot fault the accommodation and facilities. Selina Management Global, Revenue Management at Bounce Magnetic Island, responded to this review Good Afternoon Liam,I am very disappointed that your stay with us was not up to the standard that you expected and should have received. Sadly with the bird feeding we cannot control the birds as they are wild and some days they just don't want to come down and others they do. Since the cyclone we have been short staffed and you are correct the welcome drinks shouldn't be advertised if we can't supply what is offered. Thankfully we are staffed back up and we have 2 staff members on every night that look after the social hour and the welcome drinks.Hopefully you will try one of our other properties or come back to Maggie and we can show you what real hospitality is all about.
