Overall an enjoyable return stay, with a few areas of improvement needed.

    rating24 May 2026

Very much enjoying Port as a relaxing break, I’ve stayed at the Sheraton Mirage six times over eight years. Whilst service could be improved, the resort’s layout is excellent.Pre arrival communication was good, but check in was underwhelming - mobile check in wasn’t honoured, and I had to redo manual check-in. I was acknowledged as Marriott Gold and kindly upgraded to a large lagoon access room, though not welcomed back as a repeat guest. A bottle of sparkling wine was a nice touch, albeit oddly unsigned. The location is slightly out of town but walkable in about 30 minutes, with paid shuttles available from multiple private operators (including Excellence and SR). The grounds and eight lagoons are the resort’s best feature - beautiful, expansive and rarely crowded. It’s still disappointing there’s no adults only lagoon, as families and inflatables were common even outside school holidays.I highly recommend a lagoon access room for direct lagoon access. My room was bright, airy and comfortable. Considering the last major refurb was ~2018, the rooms are generally well maintained - a few issues with the balcony area included a sticky balcony door and dirty tiling and greening. The stocked minibar is convenient, though disappointing to have found a bottle of expired beer.Dining options for those with dietary restrictions have improved over my stays, but I mostly dined in town. I did opt for room service on my last evening - the pizza was disappointing however (see photo).Service overall felt mixed: most notably turndown was inconsistent (and missed on one evening), when passing staff most don’t greet guests, and the Daintree Bar staff spent their time chatting behind the bar rather than serving guests.Having provided some constructive feedback to the duty manager, Nicole was excellent - intently listening and taking it on board. In all, I still think it’s a good premium hotel option if visiting Port.

    Solid Hotel in the Tropics

    rating03 Apr 2026

I am so glad that despite the many negative reviews that I read, I decided to stay at the Sheraton Mirage. My room was updated and spacious. The bathroom was well appointed. The swimming pools were nice. Majority of staff was quite helpful. Karen at the front desk was great! Transportation to Port Douglas city center is fast and easy with paid shuttle - quite convenient! I didn’t eat breakfast on property, but had a nice dinner once. I enjoyed the hotel and I had a pleasant stay with one or two exceptions…The girl who serviced my room daily needed some more training. The smoke alarms went off during my stay twice. The lack of communication of staff with guests regarding an all clear etc was inexcusable. This happened at about 1:30am! Guests were in hallway trying to figure out what to do with zero staff around. Hotel phone lines get cut when alarms go off. The next morning the alarms went off again…..same circumstances! They rang both times for quite a while. Those instances, I am, sure are outliers. If you have mobility issues, please know that there are stairs around the property that you will probably have to endure. The Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas is a huge resort property in a wonderful location. I am very glad that I chose this property for my stay in Port Douglas!

What we wished we had known before we went

    rating02 Apr 2026

We had a very nice stay at this property! I found most of the reviews to be very accurate - including most of the points for improvement - but there a few things I wished I had known before I stayed which I would like to share with others:- The elite team led by German is amazing! We didn’t experience any challenges on the trip, but I am sure they would have fixed it if we did. Honestly, they probably preempted some challenges as well. Really, one of the most incredible elite teams I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.- Ubers don’t really work in Port Douglas so if you don’t have a car you are frequently relying on the SR shuttle service. While it runs reliably, it is fairly expensive (8 AUD per person per trip each way). If we went again we would look into renting a car.- One of the best meals we had was at the Asian fusion restaurant. Fun concept with an open kitchen. Service can be a bit inconsistent, but I recommend looking out for Suzi who will not only make sure you are taken care of, but make sure you feel special!- While 4 mile beach is extraordinarily beautiful, most of the town, restaurants, and hotels (including the Sheraton) aren’t set up to offer an ocean view. We found this disappointing when we first arrived but ended up feeling fully satisfied with beach time between some amazing snorkeling adventures and incredible walks on the beach.Hope this is helpful! Have a great trip!

    Just don't

    rating02 Apr 2026

This was probably a special resort 25 years ago but is now just dated and sad. In spite of a friendly staff doing its best, the owners clearly are putting no effort into keeping this property in shape. Multiple things in our room and around the property were broken or dirty and the food in the Feast Restaurant was inedible. We chose it based on the photos and that it appeared affiliated with a golf course (which turned out to be a pathetic one that anyone from any hotel could go to). If we could do it all over again, we would have chosen one of the newer hotels that looked fresh and happy when we saw them in person. They were also less expensive and shorter walks into the cute little town. Joseph Amerio, Other at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas, responded to this review Thank you for sharing your feedback about your stay at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas. We’re sorry to hear that your experience fell short of expectations, and we appreciate you highlighting areas where you felt improvements are needed, including room conditions, the property’s maintenance, dining quality, and the golf course. While it’s encouraging to hear that you found the staff friendly, it’s clear the overall experience did not meet your hopes. Your input is valuable, and we’ll make sure it contributes to continual reflection and growth.
