    Handy to crash

    rating27 Jul 2025

Arrived after a tedious flight from NZ which was late. Checkin was an email and pickup key from drop box. Room was small but two singles which was what we needed. Late and early jets taking off from the airport went over head. But the bed was comfortable the A/C worked and when we wanted we could open a slide door onto a small verrandah. Noted that the shower edge could do with attention from the cleaner. But handy for a bried stopover.

Okay accommodation but not more than that

We stayed here 2 nights after arriving to Australia. The hotel is very near the airport and in reasonable walking distance to the esplanada. The room had a good size but other than that it was in a rough condition. It seemed clean but needs some renovationFree parking was nice. The Wi-Fi was not so good in our room, not good for streaming and did cut out oftenly

    AVOID!!

    rating07 Jul 2023

Worst place I have ever seen in my life. We were in there a full 30 mins, and only to rearrange our accommodation. Go to reception, locked. Says to call number on the door, but no number was left. Fortunately I was able to use mobile data to get the number and call with no charges. Found we had to get our key card out of a safe, with multiple other envelopes - god knows who had access to our key and possibly copied it. Get the the room and it’s just filthy, I have never experienced anything like it. At the moment we knew we needed to find elsewhere, as we fled extremely unsafe and couldn’t stay in an unclean room. To top it off, there is no safe offered in the room which secured our fears of being in the room, and leaving our valuables there. We booked via British Airways so was under the impression we didn’t need to read reviews, as BA had 3.5/4 stars and the images looked lovely, but never again!

    Very Rude Receptionist.

I phoned up to book a room as I lived at that address, 287 Lake Street in 1982 when it used to be a very friendly gathering house and thought I would reminisce while checking out Cairns. I was expecting the normal "Hello" Sue (or something) speaking can I help you. I gave my name and asked who I was speaking to, no reply except "do you want to book a room" I said yes and what is your name, no reply, no "why do you want to know " nothing. I briefly explained my social reason for wanting to know her name, again total ignorant reply "Do You Want To Book A Room" I replied for the 4th time "yes" can I speak to the manager, please. 10 times she asked if I wanted to book a room but refused the common decency to say her name. Then she hung up the phone. Then I wrote this review. The rest of the negative reviews make perfect sense as there was absolutely zero care or concern for me as a potential willing guest, I was imagining the anti hospitality if I actually stayed there.
