    Excellent stay at the Mercure

    rating07 May 2026

Hadn’t stayed here for years and booked despite some negative reviews. Did get a deal on luxury escapes and maybe timing good but found all staff welcoming and helpful, room very comfortable, buffet breakfast more than adequate. Overall a very comfortable stay and while on alert for all the negatives, certainly didn’t apply to our stay. Good location in only 10-12 mins walk to downtown. Definitely will stay again. Charley Glover, Marketing at Mercure Canberra, responded to this review Dear jrr270455, We very much appreciate you taking your time to submit a review of your stay at Mercure Canberra and thank you for your comments. Don’t Bother Booking Here - So Disappointing

    rating24 Apr 2026

Location 5 stars - If you ever are visiting Canberra for Anzac Day- you can walk there easily in about 15 minutesReception 2 stars - Upon arrival we went to check in - 2 females (one was Sai) - no smile, greeting, no information about the Hotel facilities. We asked about the Anzac service eg time to leave hotel etc and a piece of paper was shoved across the desk with information about the hotel facilities on the day. We returned later that night after dinner and what a change at reception- 2 male colleagues who advised time to leave and lots of information - what a difference. Then on last day I questioned the account and Sai argued at the front counter instead of perhaps saying “let me check and get back to you. I had to tell her to do that. No common courtesy displayed.Food2 StarIncluded in the room rate was a buffet breakfast. However if you wanted a coffee that was not from the machine it was $5 extra. The scrambled eggs were not fresh. We found out from word of mouth that you could order eggs is fried/poached/omelette but no signs anywhere “order eggs here”. Likewise to order coffee “order here” no signs at juice station eg apple, orange, pineapple etc no one knew what they were. And on Anzac Day the buffet breakfast was a disgrace.Rooms3 StarBed comfy and bathroom ok - last day we had the pleasure of cold showers. When we told receptionthey just shrugged off and said everyone must be using it - no apology forthcoming. Other guests most disgruntled. All in all the hotel is extremely tired looking, holes in main doors, chips off windows and doors - needs a big spruce up and staff need to be retrained in customer service. Such a disappointment in one of Accors properties. Must mention the lady in charge of breakfast did an amazing job with no staff and the cleaning lady was a delight. Charley Glover, Marketing at Mercure Canberra, responded to this review Dear Lynn D,Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Canberra and providing such a detailed review. Hotel far in the suburbs with rather poor public transport, our car got vandalised on the premises!

    rating19 Mar 2026

Location quite far from city centre, near airport. In general the hotel is somewhat rundown. Rooms ok but housekeeping not top. Since parking fees in the city are prohibitively high, we left our rental car on the private free parking in front of the hotel, declining the offer for the secured parking at a rate of 25 $ a day… Upon leaving we found our car vandalised: window cleaner broken off. Our car was in full sight of CCTV of the hotel. We reached out to the reception staff for help, which they didn’t offer: no experience, don’t know what to do, etc. There was no one in charge reachable, senior manager would only come two days later, after the weekend. We finally called the police, and got a report number to take us further. We never heard back from the hotel, especially the manager who was supposed to check the CCTV footage for the culprit and inform the local police: the incident occurred a full week ago! With all that, we will be held responsible and have to pay the damage from our pocket. Avoid this hotel: there is a fantastic option in city centre: Deco Hotel Canberra. Charley Glover, Marketing at Mercure Canberra, responded to this review Good morning herlimanda,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We have checked with our front desk team and Duty Manager and have confirmed that they have responded directly to you in regard to this incident. Excellent

    rating11 Mar 2026

I’ll start by saying we have been here before many many years ago, primarily to see the war memorial.. which again was the main reason for coming. This time, however we knew that it was just up the road from the hotel, which was fabulous.. and speaking of position, we were just up the road from the main shops in Canberra as well so that was perfect and an easy area to get to & from the main highway coming from Sydney. So the hotel, its old and there’s no getting away from that fact ,but the room inside ,well certainly ours was -pristine.. I ordered an executive King balcony room and was certainly happy with what we got. It was very large and it looked out onto a beautiful courtyard and it was a very short walk to where breakfast was held and the bistro etc.. it has a very large parking area which is fantastic at the back of the hotel.. just as well -because just about everywhere in Canberra charges for parking. We were checked in so quickly from the two lovely girls at the front desk.. and the short walk to the room ,which as I said, was very large in a good position and just pristine. And all the amenities and toiletries that you could possibly need.. now this hotel apparently ,you are allowed to bring your animals. And we had a few dogs in our area.. which was great because we love dogs and we were able to pat a few as they were being taken out for a walk. We occasionally heard a bark as the owners must’ve been going out for their breakfast or whatever, but it certainly didn’t worry us.. the breakfast was perfectly adequate with the usual toast and hot breakfast items pancakes, eggs, bacon etc, fruits and yoghurts and tea and coffee and more. Very pleasant room to have breakfast in. There’s also a lounge close by ,that then leads into a bar and bistro which we enjoyed meals at both nights we were there.. the staff were very nice and the building is very nice and I think slowly being done up. Definitely the curtains in our room seemed new , the carpets seemed fairly new.. inside all the areas was pristine and you could see everybody working on them. Beautiful gardens.. I did see a lot of scaffolding stacked to the side of the building -now whether they’re going to repaint the outside ? I’m not too sure.. but those sorts of things don’t affect my stay.. comfort in a room, nice staff and nice food is all we need and a great position in the town. We would definitely definitely stay there again. Charming but shabby hotel. Room was comfortable but bathroom really badly designed as shower flooded walk in area and rotted bathroom door.Enjoyed the terrace area, please kill the weeds its a nice garden but lawn is all weeds.Excellant bar for service and food, Staff really work hard.Arrival not so good Receptionist couldnt find our prepaid and pre checked in booking until I showed her a printed copy, bit of a downer on our Anniversary, however she eventually smiled. Checkout fine no problems.Location is great and parking so easy Charley Glover, Marketing at Mercure Canberra, responded to this review Dear magsrich,Thank you for your review.
