    Worst nights stay!!

    rating18 Sept 2025

Recently stayed here before travelling to Brisbane on early flight out of Mackay. The room we were given was disgraceful the bed sheets had holes ripped in them, bed looked like it hadn’t been made and we even found hairs 🤢 the pillows were cheap and nasty. We ended up sleeping on top of bed well not much sleep. The hotel was full of FIFO workers and was really busy, so no chance of room change. To be charged $150 or so for the room was ridiculous, the room in that state should never of been allowed to be used. I will not be staying there again that’s for sure!! Adriette Meyer, General Manager at ibis Mackay, responded to this review Dear Dawn,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of.Sincerely,Adriette

    Disappointing

    rating01 Jul 2025

I stayed here for a day and had to extend my stay by one more day. I requested at the reception to continue in the same room, but was told I had to check out, pack all my belongings, come down to the reception with my luggage, wait in queue, and then check in again - only to find out that my new room was right next to the original one. This could have been managed much better. A direct shift to the adjacent room without the unnecessary hassle would have made the experience far more pleasant. It seemed like a lack of coordination and experience on the part of the staff.I hope the hotel improves how such simple situations are handled in the future. As for me - never coming back here. It’s an Ibis - great spot for the airport

    rating09 Apr 2025

Close to the airport! It’s an Ibis so you shouldn’t expect a fancy hotel. But it’s functional and is good for a work hotel or if you have an early flight. Comfy beds for sure. Great air conditioning. The restaurant is too expensive - go elsewhere. Something that puzzled me about the room - there was alcohol, soft drink and snacks in the room but no minibar list, no information on what it was for etc etc. I didn’t touch it but without any information- maybe it’s complimentary?

Time for the owners to shake it up- managers and a refurb

    rating14 Feb 2025

Why dont staff have uniforms and name badges? Some staff look completely inappropriate for customer facing positions and lack the skills to greet and converse simply with guests. The staff appear to lack training and support or maybe they are simply the wrong people to work in hospitality .Processes are painfully long for every simple request, check in is irritating and repetitive, for example if you have ALL of our details and they have been confirmed by using the online check in app as accor members for over 20 years WHY does everything need to be examined in minute details EVERY single time???? We have been emailed OTHER guests check out folios and private details more than once in the last year, this is unacceptable that the hotel breaches its own accor privacy policy and when I have attempted to contact the hotel and the general manager 4 times, there was NO reply at all, no care factor as to why my email address was connected to a stranger??? Staff seem to be unaware of the accor rewards and levels system. As for the rooms AGAIN, the rooms are NOT being vacuumed between guests, we know this because when we remove our shoes we can feel dirt/stones etc on the carpet from work boots. This is unacceptable as is the fact that every time we stay at this ibis we bring along glen 20 disinfectant wipes to wipe down every surface and tv remote and light switches BECAUSE the staff DO NOT clean these areas, WE HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS . This is UNACCEPTABLE . House keeping is a hard job , but the staff are changing sheets and towels and not cleaning the rooms to any acceptable level. Does any manager EVER check the rooms???? AGAIN the rooms need a refurb its time well and truly , the airport authority and its owners need to get to this asap. If it was not for mining and resources contracts this hotel would be a lot quieter and all guests deserve a quality experience.Breakfast : staff lethargic, really uninterested in anything really, could not be bothered with anything other than standing at the bar, NOT OK wrong people for this job. Cleanliness not good not acceptable in this restaurant, glasses still dirty with orange juice from previous use, cutlery take your chances as you wish, cheese and salami left on open plates in the heat , uncovered , not cooled as per food safety standards, yuk , do not eat, then the butter/margarine / jams should be cooled under ice in individual sachets as per food standards not open to everyone dipping in a knife - gross , unacceptable as per QLD HEALTH FOOD SAFETY REGULATIONS . The read table salt and pepper shakers are disgusting why have these not been replaced ?? so worn and dirty. Supermarket bread and pastries not appealing . lactose free milk for the few clients that this applies to. The yoghurts and the buffet display is unappealing you need to sort this out. Please note that the coffee machine only disperses lukewarm water fortea and coffee and is UNACCEPTABLE , however please note that the STAFF USE THE BAR EXPRESSO MACHINE for their own coffees in front of guests -nice one ibis. OK for the one positive- the new restaurant dinner menu was great , a hit for sure, congratulations to Terence and BJ . the meals were fantastic quality and serving- sofitel standard. The scallops were beautiful, the lamb shanks delicious, and the morroccan lamb shoulder excellent- thankyou , we look forward to trying some of the other dishes next visit.

    Disappointing

    rating30 Dec 2024

I recently stayed at what is supposed to be a 4-star hotel, but the experience was far from it. Despite being an Accor member, I found this property extremely disappointing.Firstly, the lack of communication was appalling. The kitchen was unexpectedly closed well before the announced dates of January 2nd to January 15th—this was December 30th! No notice or alternative arrangements were provided. Additionally, there was no room service available after a certain time, which is unacceptable for a hotel of this rating. The staffing issues were also glaring. There were no housekeeping services on Sundays, and the bar was understaffed, with only one worker managing orders, leading to extended wait times. If you’re considering staying here, I’d strongly recommend looking elsewhere. The overall service falls far below the standard one would expect from a 4-star hotel, let alone an Accor property. Adriette Meyer, General Manager at ibis Mackay, responded to this review Dear Jeremy,Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry about your experience. As you mentioned, the kitchen and bar are undergoing refurbishments currently, and due to unforeseen circumstances, the clearing of the kitchen and bar were required to occur earlier than expected. Of course, once this refurbishment is completed on the 15th of January and operations go back to normal on the 18th of January, we will provide our usual 4 star experience, including room service. Kind Regards,
