    ANCHORAGE BACKPACKERS "HOTEL"??

    rating02 Apr 2026

Avoid this run down so called "hotel."A major overhaul has been in the planning stages for years, however nothing has happened. It should be condemned by the local council.A total blight on Victor Harbor tourism!!!!!!!!!

Not advised that this was a Schoolies hotel, staff extremely unhelpful.

    rating20 Nov 2025

Only advised on arrival that this was the first day of schoolies festival and that the entire rest of the hotel was booked by schoolies. The staff at the front desk Jen was extremely unhelpful in dealing with our concerns. When asked why we weren’t advised this before arriving she said it was our fault for booking through Expedia even though they messaged us via email and text to get the details they needed before check in. When we asked what they hotel was doing for comfort of other guests she said there was nothing she could do as she was leaving soon (at 3pm when we arrived she already described them as elephants based on the noise be made). She mentioned there would be security but didn’t seem confident they would be effective. The hotel is completely unsuitable to be hosting schoolies festival and other guests (thin walls, shared balcony/veranda, flimsy door locks). If they intend to operate as a schoolies hotel they should not take bookings from other guests at this time. The fact that they didn’t was either incompetence or greed of not wanting to refund the cancellation. Ultimately had to find new accommodation at our own expense.

Centrally located Edwardian relic overlooking the southern ocean

    rating06 Nov 2025

Four wonderful days at the 1906 Anchorage Hotel which I felt I had all to myself - over the road to the beach and a short walk to Granite Island. Basic, comfortable room, no cupboard, with access to terrazzo floored private bathroom across the hall. French doors to the seafront verandah with table and chairs for dining alone. Need for painting, carpeting and repairing patched verandah perhaps, but surviving original furniture, stained glass window and remnant Edwardian floral architrave a delight. The Bistro incorporating the heritage stone building is first class as are its staff, though limited hours of opening. All things considered an inexpensive treat in a friendly, fascinating, historic town on the beautiful Florieu Peninsula.

    Tired and shabby

    rating27 Sept 2025

From the outside it looks like an old colonial building full of charm but sadly the inside doesn’t quite live up to the promise . The common areas are tired and shabby in desperate need of a paintbrush and the carpets are very 1980s . The room was spacious and the bed comfortable . The hotel has apparently leased off the restaurant area so consequently no breakfast and dinner closes early nor is there room service . It was ok for a nights stay and the price reflected the value of the room but I’d struggle to stay more than a couple of days

    Dissapointed

    rating25 Jul 2025

There is a fine line between old world charm and run down. The Anchorage manages to blur this successfully. Tired and worn fixtures. We booked a spa room overlooking beach but couldn’t enjoy the view, so many wind leaks in windows and doors making it impossible to leave curtains open without freezing. Air con was noisier than the train running past, hot water literally a 5. Minute wait till it reached warm, (waste of water). Other than that, reasonable although would have been nice to have breakfast on offer
