comfortable hotel - missing a public lobby area

    rating16 May 2026

The hotel is close to convention centre- shops restaurants and beach. So position excellent.the rooms are fine- i had a low but large room well equipped. My only issue why it got 4 rater than 5 stars is the lack of a comfortable lobby. The entrance is functional- no comfortable seats- no area to chill not in the room- where you can get coffee or snack. i asked where lobby was and told there is bistro upstairs- that's not the same thing. Practically speaking if a hotel doesn't have a lobby then might as well take an apartment hotel- cheaper and bigger which i will probably do next time SGCB Marketing , Guest Services / Front Office at Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach, responded to this review Bonjour Stanley K,Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback following your recent stay at Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach. We are pleased to read that you enjoyed our excellent location close to the convention centre, shops, restaurants, and the beach, and that your room met your expectations in terms of space and comfort. At the same time, I sincerely appreciate your comments regarding the lobby and communal seating areas. I understand your perspective very clearly—especially the desire for a welcoming space outside of the room where guests can relax, enjoy a coffee or a light snack, and simply unwind. Your comparison to an apartment-style stay is noted, and your feedback highlights an important aspect of the guest experience that we continuously evaluate. Please rest assured your comments have been noted for further review as part of our ongoing guest experience discussions with our owners and future capital enhancements. We do hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future and provide an experience that better aligns with your expectations of a Sofitel stay.Merci,Matt AndrawsGeneral Manager

    Dated

    rating02 Mar 2026

Although I complied with Accor's earlier email to check-in online, apparently another rather lengthy check-in was deemed necessary when we arrived. I discovered we got charged an extra $ 30 for "ocean view", something that came as a surprise. They charge $ 50 per night to park your car in the carpark underneath. We got room 1004, which was generous in size with a very comfortable bed, desk and plenty of storage. The decor feels rather dated, but everything you need is there, including a small Nespresso machine with some pods. The "ocean view" is simply not there ; instead you overlook ugly rooftops and the building sites in Vic square. On Saturday night the noise of bars and nightclubs was really loud and went on till early Sunday morning ; it would appear there's no soundproofing. The bathroom is excellent with both walk-in shower and bath ; nice Balmain pump bottles.Breakfast is on floor 3 and, true to Sofitel standards, is high quality - but at $ 50 per person, you'd expect that. The room itself feels cold and cafetaria-like and needs re-designing to make it more intimate. We had some drinks in both the bars, because the main one closed ridiculously early (10pm I think). The Sports Bar is more an Australian Pub, with gaming machines and large TV screens.Overal, the Sofitel Broadbeach has a sensational location, has spaceous rooms and good breakfast. But to keep the "Sofitel" label it needs a renovation. Or re-brand to Mercure. SGCB Marketing , Guest Services / Front Office at Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach, responded to this review Bonjour Dirk,Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback following your recent stay at Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach. We greatly appreciate your insights, as they help us continually improve the guest experience.I am pleased to hear that you found your room spacious and comfortable, enjoyed the bathroom amenities, and appreciated our breakfast quality. At the same time, I sincerely apologise for the issues you encountered, including the online check-in process, unexpected charges, noise from nearby nightlife, and the room view not meeting expectations. Your comments regarding décor, intimacy of the room, and bar operating hours are also noted.Thank you again for your constructive feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide a more seamless and comfortable stay.Merci,Matt AndrawsGeneral Manager

    Fabulous Location

    rating28 Feb 2026

Firstly, the staff make this hotel, they are amazing so polite and wherever you go they are just so polite and helpful. The room is dated but has been refurnished, we stayed in a superior king room the view to the ocean is lovely.Negative pointsI only drink cold water and to get to a 5 star hotel and find out that they do not agree with plastic water bottles and do not stock plastic in rooms is fine but please put at least a glass bottle / jug in the fridge so that I can fill it and chill water, same no milk in the fridge, coffee and tea supplied but no milk. I thought that the 2 bottles of water in the mini bar were complementary but no I was charged for them and then they were not replaced for the rest of the stay. Pool is lovely but not deep enough for adults 1.2m I think at the deepest part. The pillows are terrible every 5 star I have stayed in has a pillow menu, these were terrible Kmart has better, but we phoned reception and they did send up 2 firmer latex pillows, which were still cheap but folded over were ok. In brief fabulous location, fabulous staff rest a bit downhill SGCB Marketing , Guest Services / Front Office at Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach, responded to this review Bonjour Corleyc,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for highlighting our team’s efforts—our staff will be thrilled to hear your kind words! We’re delighted you enjoyed the Superior King room with its ocean view and our fantastic location. We appreciate your honest feedback regarding the room amenities, including the chilled water, milk, and pillows. Please rest assured your comments will be shared with our team as we continue to explore ways to enhance comfort and convenience for our guests. We are also mindful of sustainable practices and your suggestion regarding chilled water in the room is valuable.Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to welcome you back soon to experience an even more comfortable stay.Merci,Matt AndrawsGeneral Manager

    Let down by the pool

    rating05 Feb 2026

The hotel itself is still worthy of a 5-star rating in my opinion. The lobby is large and airy within a large void, concierge is attentive, and various function rooms are available on the lower floors. Our room was large and well-furnished and the larger than average bathroom, despite showing its age (the hotel is 30yo), is still perfectly functional. Breakfast in the restaurant on Level 3 is par for the course, with comprehensive offerings but not outstanding. What was welcome though is that barista coffee did not attract an extra surcharge, unlike other establishments we have stayed at.Location is perfect. Our only grievance is with the pools. The main pool is only 1.2m deep. Staff say that it is 'kid friendly' but that's a cop out. The access into the pool is via two large steps, at least 0.5m each, which makes it very difficult for adults with mobility issues to enter and exit. And once in the pool, you have to squat to enjoy the feeling of the water up to your neck. Surrounding the pool is a timber deck which becomes slippery, and there is nowhere near enough shade for people enjoying the loungers. The other (smaller) pool, located adjacent, does have many small steps into it, but the pool itself is 2.2m deep and there is no facility for poor swimmers to hang onto any ledging, nor is there any seating ledge in the pool. It is unfriendly. This is a great hotel in a perfect location if your priority does not include using the pools. Four stars instead of five because of that. SGCB Marketing , Guest Services / Front Office at Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach, responded to this review Bonjour Geoff_and_ Roz,Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback following your stay at Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach. I am pleased to hear that you appreciated the spaciousness of your room, the comfort of the bathroom, our lobby, concierge service, and the convenient location. I am also glad you enjoyed our breakfast. However, I am genuinely sorry that our pool facilities did not meet your expectations. Your observations regarding depth, accessibility, safety, and shade are important. I have noted this for discussion with our owners around future capital enhancements so we can explore how we can make the pools safer and more user-friendly for all guests. We truly value your balanced feedback, as it helps us focus on areas for improvement while continuing to maintain the high standards you enjoyed in other aspects of your stay. I hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.Merci,Matt AndrawsGeneral Manager
