    Comfortable but dated facility

    rating11 Mar 2026

The motel has spacious rooms, all with ocean views, and a modest restaurant/bar. There's a nice veranda for evening views while sipping a drink. However the facility could stand an upgrade. Bathroom sinks lack a single faucet - only dated separate hot and cold water taps. If you forget a tooth brush you're out of luck, no complimentary amenities.

Basic and Functional Motel in a Great Location

    rating15 Apr 2025

We stayed for 4 nights at the Kangaroo Island Seaside Inn during April 2025 in the Oceanview Queen and 1 Single Room. Our room also happened to be an accessible room so was located on the ground floor of the motel next to the main building with reception. The room itself was a basic motel room that was quite dated but had everything you needed including tea and coffee making facilities and a bar fridge. The room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were clean and you could tell they were a bit older so had that comfortable well-worn, cozy feeling. The bathroom was original (not yet renovated) and being an accessible room, the shower was understandably quite low, which meant I needed to bend down a bit as a taller person. There was ample car parking on site out the back of the hotel including some charging points for EVs. The wifi throughout the hotel was strong. We only had contact with the staff once, at check in, but the man we were served by was very friendly and polite. Location wise, the motel was on the road along the water into town but there was hardly any traffic and it was set back enough that even when there were cars it wasn’t an issue. Opposite the motel is a walking track along the waterfront that leads into Kingscote in about 10-15 minutes walking, or down to Brownlow Beach in the other direction. We used this motel in Kingscote as a base for exploring Kangaroo Island and you couldn’t beat the location for this purpose. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was it could do with a few very minor improvements like slightly newer towels and sheets. Of course, the bathrooms in particular could do with an upgrade but for the price this is a fantastic option if you’re looking for somewhere to base yourself while exploring the island.

    Adequate and functional

    rating23 Nov 2023

On arrival at 14:16 we tried to get our key but the hotel reception was locked and there appeared to be no one around. Phoned the contact number I had and the manager/ owner advised that he had popped into town for some food. He came straight back and was quickly resolved and was shown to our room.It was apparent from outside it needed a bit of a clean up.The room itself was large and again some of it was a little too red the table and chairs had seen better days but still functional, mirror needed a better clean and there was lots of dust on top of the lights over the bed. The bedding was very clean the bed large and comfortable. The fridge was stocked with milk and water and there was plenty of tea and coffee. The bathroom overall looked new and was lovely however the shower cubicle required a better clean especially at the bottom where it was marked and black. Towels were clean the floor mat ragged.Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner was provided along with hand soap. Overall the hotel did what it needed to do, they are quite obviously trying to offer some home comforts. We was happy to stay and in fairness we were happy to stay there and would return again .

    Not a convenient family experience

    rating10 Apr 2023

A hotel that could be much better if it gets a hospitable and proactive host plus if it gets out of money making to a customer service model. After staying at a premium posh KI Seafront in Penneshaw , moving to a unit like room at KI Seaside Inn in Kingscote wasn’t great. The main perk is a Seaview which most hotels there provide and a clean room. It’s inconvenient for families with kids as there is no toaster or microwave in room- Safety is cited as a reason but then other hotels provide these basic facilities in the country. We reached at noon and the on site restaurant was closed..Ideally you need food anytime, you need to rush out as you can’t heat it either nor can even toast a bread unfortunately. Jaspreet is a smart aleck who handles the hotel well but it doesn’t have much staff as he is the sole person who runs it (owners live in Adelaide) and that gives him a god like complex as he is not very assertive to feedback as you may learn interacting - He is a pind ka desi boy with decent communication unlike a hotel management trainee who is well versed with customer service and rapport. So the feedback mechanism or escalation model doesn’t cut with him.Everytime you will need to ask for things in room be it milk sachets, toiletries but given on a count of 1-2-3 so one has to keep approaching the desk due to no phones in room.If brand conscious it’s fun to read the names as the fridge is Palsonic and TV is Mitsumaru- The fridge with 1 star rating makes noise while you sleep.Restaurant is overpriced as you can easily know looking at prices and we saw the smallest garlic naan ever for dinner with a higher price - it seems to be a standard size in the hotel but it’s less than half of actual garlic naan, so food definitely is cheaper to have outside. As a family with a kid, I won’t recommend this hotel as there are plenty there which serves you well and gives basic amenities to you as needed. Mandeep Singh Gill, Owner at Kangaroo Island Seaside Inn, responded to this review Dear Guest, Thank you for staying with us and taking time out to write a review (Not Feedback) and thank you very much for editing the review and removing the humiliating and personal comments about the staff.First of all, every hotel has its own policies, so we don’t provide any microwaves or toasters that are clearly mentioned to you before you book, and we provide calculated amenities according to the needs as we cannot just pile up amenities inside the rooms but if needed extra, they are always made available to the guest. Moreover, you were continuously asking us irrelevant questions about how we run our business and about the owners which was awkward. Our restaurant is only open for Breakfast and Dinner, and we understand that you might need to eat anytime but every business has a certain timing and you arrived in the middle of the day when we do not operate, and Timings were also clearly mentioned on our website. As far as we know, our appliances are up-to-date and working efficiently. They are doing their job perfectly regardless of the brands. When you come to Kangaroo Island, you must expect that it will be expensive because it is a remote island. Also, the prices are clearly mentioned on the menu to give an idea to the guests about how much they will be charged. We served you the food even when you came without any prior booking 10 mins before closing time. We appreciate our staff for being an all-rounder rather than criticizing them for being so.

Not quite as good as the photos show, but good enough for a budget stay

    rating15 Mar 2023

This was a Ferry/hotel package deal. There was a lot of work going on around the place. Our room was pretty good, although the towels were grey in colour and very thin. Beds were comfy. Rooms are not serviced unless you slide the little sign across the door. Unfortunately for us, this meant we ended up with an almost overflowing rubbish bin by our 3rd day. Be mindful of the fact that the place is a couple of minutes drive out of town and there's no taxis on Kangaroo Island. We would have loved to have tried the Indian food, but only found out there was actually an Indian restaurant when we went to write this review on Trip Advisor! There is very little information about the area in the room and very little info offered on check in (eg that there was an Indian restaurant on site). The rooms are very dated, but it looks like there's a bit of work being done as our bathroom had been updated. There are absolutely no cooking facilities in the room, so don't expect to have a microwave or toaster. The hosts did offer for us to use the toaster in the dining room, but that was all too hard really. All in all, an OK stay, but it wasn't really worth the money we paid in our opinion.
