Great Value - Everything You Need

    rating22 May 2026

Nice home base for five nights. Hotel is located in a lively and bustling Chinatown. My 13th floor studio room was massive and included a kitchenette and a deep bathtub. Curtains made the room pitch black for restful sleeping. Loved having access to a mini-fridge and microwave so leftovers didn’t go to waste. (Melbourne has amazing food!) The decor could use some updating and the TV was smaller than expected but the hotel has everything you need. Only downsides: The patio was large but had no furniture. There was a strong food smell permeating the room/hallway on the first night that was gone the next day.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great Staff and Comfortable 1BR Apartment

    rating04 Apr 2026

I had a really nice stay at Mantra on Russell. The reception team were genuinely lovely and very patient while I worked through my Accor voucher redemptions. My one‑bedroom apartment was spacious, comfortable and had everything I needed. The spa and sauna were a great bonus and very relaxing.A couple of small improvements would lift the experience even more, the iron in the room needs replacing, and the pool tiles could use a deep clean around rim. Overall, a comfortable stay with standout staff. I’d happily return. Colin Stevesnon, General Manager at Mantra on Russell Melbourne, responded to this review Thank you Glenda for the great review! We truly appreciate you sharing your comments and rest assured we will get the maintenance team to have a look at the pool tiles. Thanks again and we hope to welcome you back soon.Kind RegardsColin Stevenson

    Location was good but strange...

    rating21 Mar 2026

Location was good. However, the room was dark and cold and the water smelled strange. (My partner says it wasn't that bad.) When checked in at the reception, the wrong room number was given. We went up to the room with the number given and found "Do not disturb" label taped to the door. I told the receptionist what I saw when I received the correct room number. Strange... Colin Stevesnon, General Manager at Mantra on Russell Melbourne, responded to this review Dear Hiroko,Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We apologise that your stay was not up to our usual standards. We appreciate your comments and can assure you we will work with our team to improve. Thanks again.Mantra on Rusell team

    Mantra Fails

    rating14 Mar 2026

TripAdvisor Complaint Summary – Stay 20–21 Feb 2026Our stay at Mantra on Russell was extremely disappointing due to poor communication, lack of assistance, and several avoidable issues. We accidentally parked at the wrong Mantra hotel because staff repeatedly insisted the location was “obvious” and never warned us that there are multiple Mantra properties nearby. No concierge assistance was offered to relocate the car, and the hotel refused to reimburse the $46 parking cost. Staff responses were defensive rather than helpful and showed little empathy or willingness to resolve the situation. At 79 years old, with a pacemaker, we were left to carry our luggage between Mantra properties on what was described as a 13-minute walk but took closer to 20 minutes uphill on crowded footpaths in the heat. No staff offered assistance. When we later mentioned difficulties during the experience, the reaction from staff was dismissive.Other problems added to the frustration:We were not told that key cards were required to activate the lights.Phone reception initially failed.Directions to the car park via Little Queen Street were confusing and unsafe, requiring reversing and multiple attempts to enter.A staff member directed us to level five of the Russell Street parking area, leaving us locked behind a gate with no working call button. The room temperature was too cold (set around 19.5°C) and could not be adjusted comfortably.Breakfast arrangements were not explained on arrival.A false fire alarm at 6:45 am required evacuation. The minibar contained only a small long-life milk, with no other drink options or simple biscuits for tea/coffee.Our room (306) faced a nearby office tower with dark glass, meaning occupants could see in while we had no privacy and had to keep the curtains closed. Finally, exiting the very steep, narrow car park felt dangerous. The tap-card door release is positioned halfway up the incline and our vehicle rolled backwards when the anti-rollback failed, creating a risk of collision.Overall, the experience lacked the care, communication, and practical assistance expected from a hotel of this standard, particularly for older guests.

    Perfect Base in Melbourne

    rating19 Feb 2026

Stayed here for 4 nights in an upgraded 1BR Apartment with balcony on 17th floor. Kitchen with stove oven, washer and dryer, dishwasher etc Great for self prepared meals. Balcony for fresh air so aircon can be switched off most of the time. Great location with Greek and many Chinese restaurants in Chinatown (sadly Greek town no longer exits as engulfed by Chinatown) Easy access to tram network. Great staff too! Colin Stevesnon, General Manager at Mantra on Russell Melbourne, responded to this review Dear conb278,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us! The Greek precinct is still on Lonsdale St and Chinatown is on Little Bourke St, we are fortunate to be so close to both and have access to many great restaurants. Thanks again and we hope to see you again soon!Kind Regards,Colin Stevenson
