    Good price in key location

    rating20 May 2026

Mantra Southbank is a good middle choice for a midweek Southbank stay. There are cheaper options, there are more luxurious options - Mantra is a solid compromise. As a party of 3, staying at most local competitors means sharing beds or using a rollaway. Mantra’s 2-bedroom apartment offers a choice of bedding – we chose 2SB, 1KB.The location is excellent. You’re a 10-minute stroll from Flinders Street station – the famous Melbourne meeting place and transport hub. There’s a 7/11 across the road, and restaurants to suit all budgets at Southbank and the nearby Southgate shopping precinct. Some of the Southgate food court outlets weren’t open for dinner midweek, but you certainly won’t starve. On the Wednesday night we were there, Grill’d, PappaRich, a juice bar and an icecreamery were open in the food court.Mantra’s lobby looks good and smells good. The breakfast buffet is next to the lobby. It’s not included with your stay but can work out more economical to add in at the time of booking rather than to pay on the day. The spread is standard 4-star hotel fare, with eggs to order being the highlight. Barista coffee is available for a fee. The restaurant is only open for breakfast – you will have to source your other meals elsewhere.Level 18 hosts a gym, sauna and heated pool. There are nice views toward Flinders Street station from the balcony. Pool towels are not provided – you are expected to use your room towel at the pool. The apartment itself had a full kitchen and generous living area with couch and dining table. There were TVs in the living room and one of the bedrooms, with a good range of Foxtel channels. The Accor member Wi-Fi was easy to access but not the regular guest connection. The beds were uncomfortable, but the apartment was clean. The bathroom was dated, with a shower/tub combination that was difficult to climb into. The water in the shower took a long time to warm up, making a mockery of the sign politely requesting guests keep their shower time under 4 minutes. The toilet was inconveniently positioned behind the bathroom door, wedged in a corner that would be very difficult for a plus-sized person to use.Overall, Mantra Southbank is a useful option for a Melbourne city stay. The configuration options for the beds make Mantra Southbank a better option for groups than a standard hotel. They offer competitive prices, a great location, and the bonus of a pool, gym and breakfast. When I next need to stay in the CBD, I would certainly consider Mantra Southbank.

Spent a night their for a work trip. The location is excellent, the rooms are very large but extremely basic & had a cheap feel to it.Totally fine for a budget experience but I did expect more. The room had a kitchen but it did not make me feel enticed to use it.The room had a lot of amenities but the ironing board was useless.I will say that the staff were very friendly & helpful & bumped up mu rating.

    Very disappointed

    rating30 Jan 2026

Not up to Accor standard at all. Bad customer service and the cleanliness of the apartment left alot to be desired. Bathroom filthy. Stove top dirty. I could go on. Front Desk Duty Manager rude & unwelcoming. Loved the location though. Very mediocre

    rating29 Dec 2025

No view, our room was right near a lift where the housekeeping kept their smelly dirty washing trolley 24×7. We asked to change rooms, but they were supposedly fully booked for the cricket season. Pool was warm, but the floor super slippery.Breakfast buffet was the same every day. Quite ordinary and the brewed coffee was tasteless. They allowed us to store out luggage which was helpful.
