Outdated and lacking in basic amenities

    rating08 Dec 2025

I always try to give a fair bit honest review. So it's a bit long. We did not choose to stay here. Our virgin flight was cancelled, and we were given a voucher accommodation at this hotel. Not sure what the nightly cost is, but I imagine very cheap, as it's very outdated. And lacking BASIC amenities, like a shower cap, a pen and paper. Maybe the average traveller doesn't need this... But considering it's a hotel of choice for cancelled flights, perhaps they could consider a "special amenities pack" for those types of travellers. It was a late flight cancellation/hotel arrival, and whilst we did not expect a restaurant to be open.... Room service ceases at 8.30pm too, so we then went to bed hungry. Couldn't even order uber eats, as the address provided is not a valid address for Uber. And by the time this was resolved, it was past midnight.I appreciate it's an old hotel, but management can still do things to ensure the stay is comfortable and SAFE.... Like providing drapes that actually cover the entire window. A pen and paper. Plastic shower cap or toothbrush. Also, whilst they say 24 hour reception... We tried calling, but got no response. Hubby has to go back downstairs to get information. Services need to be safe... We didn't have an issue of "no hot water" as others started. We had scalding hot water, which comes out quite rapid at a1/4 turn..... Unlike the cold water, which needed to be turned more than a full turn to even come out. And as the taps are not accessible without getting sprayed by scalding water .... Definitely not safe. things to be aware of before booking: *The shower is over the bath, and challenging access for anyone with a mobility issue or small children.. No grab rail, a fixed shower screen and the scalding water issue. *If you are a light/poor sleeper: Road noise(room 202) and the Curtains don't close properly, so you will be awaken at daybreak. *There are no toiletries apart from body wash and shampoo/conditioner.PROS. *The bed was very comfortable, crisp clean linen*The girl who checked us in was very friendly, and tried to be as accommodating as possible, given the issues we had with the airline voucher booking system, which was really nothing in her control. So we really appreciated that, given how late and tired/annoyed we were already. So thankyou. And in hindsight, perhaps she couldn't answer the phone, as she did say there were still 10 other bookings coming in from the cancelled flight. Less than average and no hot water.

    rating23 Sept 2025

No hot water in room and nothing done to compensate. Wasn't a big deal so I assume it is a regular issue. Run down very average property. If there are other options for accommodation take them. Mercure North Melbourne - you get what you pay for.

    rating14 Jun 2025

Value for money hotel on the outskirts of the CBD. Stayed here specifically to be in this particular area for exhibition.Ample parking (though a bit tight).Room was clean enough and beds were comfortable.Wifi worked well and simple tea/coffee additions in the room.Shower/bathroom functioned without issues and good water pressure and the A/C heated/cooled the room efficiently. The hotel overall is fairly run down - old carpets, chipped cabinets, faded paint as well as a questionable elevator. But for all purposes of a quick weekend road trip for 2 female travellers it served its purpose without breaking the budget. Di Butler, General Manager at Mercure North Melbourne, responded to this review Dear Charlene,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are glad to hear you had a pleasant stay with us, and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.Regards,Mercure North Melbourne Team

Facilities were outdated and breakfast included in rate was terrible.

    rating17 Feb 2025

Honest reviews are very important for travellers. It is fair to say that Mercure North Melbourne is definitely not a 4.5 star as shown online across the hotel platforms. I stayed here over the weekend and to be honest I was disappointed with the facilities. When travelling you rely on Reviews vs prices for the accommodations. This place was definitely not what they show in the pics. From the carpark to the rooms it was outdated including the room setups. I paid for breakfast to be included, the breakfast was below average...hot dishes they had served out eg. bacon, baked beans the cannisters were not even lit so the "hot" food were not hot but stoned cold...My honest review would be the pic are very deceiving vs rates and services being offered or advertised. Di Butler, General Manager at Mercure North Melbourne, responded to this review Dear guest,Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. While we wish you'd had a more positive experience, it is from feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We sincerely hope to welcome you back soon.Regards,Mercure North Melbourne Team

Definitely not like the other Mercure we have been to

    rating08 Feb 2025

4 star hotel awesome we thought as we have been to four other Mercure around Australia and loved them but what a disaster this one is! First off we had to pay for parking, instead of the key pass to get us in and out we only got one token to exit, so had to go back to the reception every time if we need one.The room check in time was 2pm, we got there at 2:45pm and room was still not ready waited 15 minutes to be put in a totally different layout room. Which was less than what we paid for.Walking into the room, it looks cleaned, tv only had four channels, the rest required internet which we could not connect. The bathroom was absolutely bloody disgusting, the floor was sticky, the door would not close and the handle was half off the door. There was mould all round the bath/shower and bloody hair on the bottom of the bath. The toilet had piss on it, and hairs around the toilet. We will never be coming back this place! Di Butler, General Manager at Mercure North Melbourne, responded to this review Dear Kylie,We are disappointed to hear your stay did not live up to your expectations, and sincerely hope to be able to welcome you soon to the positive experience so many of our guests have grown fond of. We apologise for the issues encountered in your room and appreciate the feedback in our constant work for improving guest experience.Regards,Mercure North Melbourne Team
