Basic hotel but a great location

    rating17 May 2026

We spent a few days here attending a nearby symposium. Location is great- absolutely central and surrounded by bars, restaurants and shopping. Our room though was very small. More suited to an overnight stay rather than several days. Depressing view of dirty rooftops and buildings. Service was ok though housekeeping was every 3 days unless requested. Unfortunately only one lift working for first couple of days we were there meaning getting up and down from 10th floor took awhile. The gem of this hotel is the Loudan breakfast area. Excellent cooked breakfast in a bright and cheery space. Best fried bacon I have ever had. The hotel is located adjacent to Pullman and we used there very nice rooftop bar a few times. In summary, ok for a quick visit but I wouldn’t recommend an extended stay. Erdi Group, Other at Mercure Welcome Melbourne, responded to this review Dear Andrew B,Thank you for your feedback. We’re pleased you enjoyed our central location and the breakfast at Louden Restaurant, and we appreciate your kind comments about the team. We’re sorry to hear that your room size, view, and lift delays impacted your overall stay. Your comments have been shared with our Management team as we continue working to improve the guest experience.Regards,Alex MihardjaExecutive Assistant

    Do not stay here!

    rating11 May 2026

1 starThis is one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had in Melbourne and absolutely nowhere near what should qualify as a 4-star property under the Accor brand. The beds were genuinely awful, completely worn out, uncomfortable, and clearly overdue for replacement. After a long day of travel, getting a decent night’s sleep should be the bare minimum expectation from a hotel. Instead, we barely slept. What makes this even worse is that there are countless other reviews raising the exact same issue about the beds, with management repeatedly replying saying improvements would be made. Clearly, nothing has been done. The overall condition of the rooms was equally poor. The rooms felt dirty, tired, and neglected, with visible grime and wear throughout. The property is in desperate need of a deep clean and major refresh. I’ll be attaching photos because the condition speaks for itself. The WiFi was also shockingly bad. Slow, unreliable, and barely usable. For a hotel in 2026, there is simply no excuse for internet this poor. What truly made the experience unacceptable, however, was the attitude of the staff. When we raised concerns, the response from the duty manager and team was dismissive, rude, and made us feel like we were an inconvenience for expecting basic standards. There was no genuine attempt to resolve the situation at the time and the interactions became uncomfortable enough that we no longer wanted to deal with the front desk at all.To his credit, the General Manager eventually stepped in and offered a room move. However, this only happened after we had to identify who he was ourselves and escalate the matter directly to him. Guests should not have to chase down senior management just to receive basic service recovery. The most frustrating part is that management responses across reviews continue to acknowledge these same issues while the hotel itself appears unchanged. The beds are still terrible. The rooms are still run down. The standards are still poor.Accor markets Mercure as a quality midscale hotel brand. This property falls well below that standard in almost every respect.Would never stay here again and would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Erdi Group, Other at Mercure Welcome Melbourne, responded to this review Dear X1996KDlg,Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We are very sorry to hear your experience did not meet expectations and that you encountered issues with the room condition, bedding, WiFi and service interaction. Your comments have been escalated to our Management and relevant departments for urgent review. Apologies for the inconvenience experienced.Regards,Alex MihardjaExecutive Assistant

    Just don't

    rating11 May 2026

Where do I start? Only one elevator working so VERY long waits to get to my desired floor. It was full and I was unable to enter the elevator on multiple occasions, I was only there 3 days. The small box of chocolates offered as compensation was a joke. The room was tiny, it felt like I was on a cruise ship. Stairwell doors locked. Fire Hazard? Shower floor very slippery. Shower grout full of mold, gross. Water temp in shower either scalding or too cold. No housekeeping for 3 days. Never again. Erdi Group, Other at Mercure Welcome Melbourne, responded to this review Dear Trip19109402658,Thank you for your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear about the issues you experienced during your stay, including lift delays, room condition, and bathroom concerns. For clarity, our current cleaning policy operates on a “Green Stay” model, where daily housekeeping is provided every third day in support of our sustainability program. However, guests are welcome to request fresh towels and replenishment of in-room amenities at daily upon request.Your comments regarding maintenance, safety concerns, and overall comfort have been escalated to our Management and Engineering teams for immediate review.Regards,Alex MihardjaExecutive Assistant
