    Centrally located hotel at the corner of Swanston and Collins st the Novotel is close to food and shopping. Access from a tiny entrance the lobby is on Level 3. Staff are very efficient in checking in I was given a nice welcome drink as well a bottle of wine and chocolates which is a nice gesture. Rooms and decor are abit dated however they are very spacious and no issues with the bed or the air conditioning. Coffee and tea from sachets but it’s decent quality moccona and dlimah. In all a very pleasant stay just hope the lift upgrade is completed soon it’s only 1 lift serving all rooms.     The positive first: great location.Then the lifts work spasmodically when operational. The urgent fix is a replacement now a year in the making.The room/bathrooms are so tired and badly need updating. Bathroom accessories were and towels for kiddies.Not Novotel standard; fix it or close it.     I stayed 3 days over Easter weekend and not only did I find the hotel comfortable and clean, but the staff were attentive.     Don't stay here until the lifts are fixed.

    The Novotel on Collins is conveniently located near Melbourne Central, with easy access to the CBD, shops and public transport. On arrival, the lobby and reception area felt functional, and the location was the main reason we chose the property.Unfortunately, we did not read other reviews in detail before booking and missed repeated complaints about the lifts. During our stay there was effectively only one working lift servicing the hotel’s 14 floors, which created daily bottlenecks. Wait times regularly stretched to around 10–15 minutes during peak periods and the lift was often full, meaning we sometimes had to let it go and wait again. This problem appears to have been ongoing for more than 6 months based on previous reviews, yet the responses from management repeatedly state they are “aware” and that an upgrade is “about to occur.” That is not an adequate solution for paying guests. Breakdowns happen but operating a multi storey hotel with this level of lift availability significantly impacts accessibility (especially for guests with mobility issues, prams or luggage) and creates unnecessary stress around check out times, airport transfers and scheduled plans. We raised the issue during our stay, but the acknowledgement did not translate into any practical remedy.Beyond the lift issue, the property feels tired and overdue for refurbishment. The overall finish and presentation do not align with what I would expect from a Novotel 4 star hotel at this price point. Common areas and room features appear dated, and the experience came across as more “in need of an update” than “well maintained.”If you still plan to stay here, I would recommend confirming that the lifts are fully operational before booking (or choosing another property until the upgrade is actually completed). Otherwise, be prepared to use the stairs at times, which may not be feasible for some guests.Given the duration of the issue and the impact on accessibility and basic convenience, I cannot recommend this hotel in its current condition.
