    Terrible experience — avoid this place at all costs.We had a confirmed reservation for over a month, with clear confirmation that we could arrive at any time thanks to a 24-hour reception.When we arrived late at night, there was absolutely no response: multiple calls and messages, but no one answered. We were left stranded in the streets of Melbourne at night, forced to urgently look for another hotel. Everything was fully booked, and after a long struggle, we finally found a room — at a higher price.The next day, there was no real accountability. The hotel simply canceled our reservation and told us to deal with it, blaming the absence of a staff member, without even informing us beforehand.This level of unprofessionalism and lack of communication is completely unacceptable, especially in the hospitality industry. Leaving guests in such a situation at night is irresponsible.We strongly do not recommend this place. If you value your stay, avoid it.

    Appalling hotel.Owners are a disgrace and should not be allowed to host guests.Very abusive old guy on reception.Reported him to local police about his conduct.Stay clear of this hotel if you could call it that!!!

    A great find in the heqrt of the city

    Due to the Formular I Race ,I was battling to find one night's accomodation in the CBD for a short business trip. On a random on line search I found the Hotel Sophia ,a mere 6 minute walk from the Skybus terminus and at a reasonable rate. The hotel is located in an elegant old style building with a distinctive" old Europe" flair.In light of the race ,I could only secure an economy class room which whilst small, was freshly painted and spotless.I had no issue with the hum of traffic on King Street and was pleased to be able to open the window to catch the evening breeze!My stay concluded with a great value breakfast.The receptionist Mayura was welcoming and courteous on my arrival whilst night manager Paul gave me good advice on travel options and pubs nearby to visit.The only minor issue was a difficulty to contact the hotel by phone to confirm the check in and our times.Give this hotel a try- you will not be disappointed!

    Great location close to everything. Rooms were basic but tidy enough except the toilet still had paper in it. Elderly gentleman made 3 sets of us checking in wait 30mins until 2pm and said twice "check in is 2pm". No one was in reception, phone wasn't being answered and he made it clear we were to early. It was extremely unprofessional and quite strange.

    DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR - DONT Stay Here

    WOW !! I've read plenty of reviews and this one is going to beat them all !! SO UNPROFESSIONAL - Booked through 'Booking.com' on 01/06/25 JUNE. I requested to pay on arrival and secured with current Credit Card with Booking.com., the usual request, but monies taken from my account on 02/06/25, THE NEXT DAY, for booking 6-9th March, 2026 (Labour Day long weekend). 9 months -OK, so its paid for, GREAT!SO.... 3 MONTHS LATER ON 27/08/26 an email arrives from the Booking.com advising that a current credit card was needed to secure the booking and now "This reservation was cancelled because of an invalid credit card"..... WOT!!They took the monies from our account with the current credit card given, the very next day- 3 months before. If it was invalid, they would not have been able to have transferred funds. We checked the Hotel Sophia site, and it showed that the dates that we had booked for - March 6-9, 2026, had increased substantially showing hundreds and hundreds of $$ more. AHAHAHAH.Communications to Booking.com, our Booking Agent, just directed us to call the Hotel Sophia.....Mmmmmm, the whole reason for booking through an agent was to have the agent make the booking and complete its service and handle any of our queries- NO SERVICE, just handball me off to the Hotel Sophia- Ooops, NO communications here after many attempts for request to explain why this booking was cancelled - only a request for us to send banking details so they can refund monies that were taken from our account with the "INVALID Credit card" - this smells like a big scam and whats on this weekend in Melbourne, THE GRAND PRIX CAR RACE !!!!!So........ when did monies finally get refunded ??? after so many emails to request this be completed- AT NO FAULT ON OUR BEHALF - it was deposited into our account on 12th February, 2026 - 8 1/2 MONTHS from when they first took it from our account with the valid credit card attached.SHAME ON YOU HOTEL SOPHIA and BOOKING.COM. I expected more from you if I make a booking through you. This behaviour appears to be consistent, and I have reported this incident to the appropriate authorities.
