    Disappearing

    rating07 Mar 2026

I have stayed at The Como Melbourne many years ago and remembered it as a stylish and impressive hotel. Unfortunately, this recent stay was very disappointing and fell far short of expectations. To summarise our experience:The coffee machine in the room was broken. The bathroom was filthy, with visible mould. The toilet barely flushed — it took around ten attempts just to flush toilet paper. Not ideal if you’re sharing the room with your partner after a big dinner the night before! 💩🤦🏼‍♀️No toilet brush. The bathroom power point was broken, so I had to blow-dry my hair in the bedroom without a mirror. Our bathroom was not cleaned on the second day.Carpet is threadbare. Tea and coffee were not restocked daily, meaning four tea bags and three coffee pods had to last two people for four days. There was no shampoo provided — only two bath gels, one conditioner and a body lotion. No complimentary bottled water was supplied. The lifts had a noticeable urine smell. The hotel overall is looking tired — the walls need repainting and the circa-1990s bathrooms are overdue for renovation.More broadly, the surrounding Chapel Street area also feels quite tired compared with years past. There are still some excellent restaurants nearby, but much of the once-vibrant shopping strip is now lined with empty stores. In its current condition, The Como is certainly not a five-star experience. At best, I would rate it around 3.5 stars. ⭐ Cory Norris-Jones, General Manager at The Como Melbourne, responded to this review Dear joeannek2026,Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback regarding your recent stay at The Como Melbourne. We are genuinely sorry to hear that your experience was so disappointing and that we failed to meet the positive memories you held from your previous visit. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the numerous issues you encountered.I am deeply concerned to read about the specific problems you highlighted, as they clearly indicate a lapse in our usual standards of service and maintenance. The multiple issues you experienced are unacceptable, and I was genuinely disappointed to see how badly we let you and ourselves down during your stay. This is certainly not the five-star experience we aim to provide, and we understand your assessment of a 3.5-star rating given these deficiencies. Your detailed account is invaluable in helping us pinpoint areas requiring immediate and significant attention. Please be assured that we are taking your feedback very seriously. I have immediately escalated your comments to our Housekeeping and Maintenance teams, and we are conducting a thorough investigation into each point you raised. I am personally working closely with our team to review our cleaning procedures, conduct comprehensive room inspections, address maintenance issues promptly, and ensure our amenity stocking protocols are strictly followed. While we understand your disappointment with the surrounding Chapel Street area, we want to ensure that the quality of our hotel remains a positive aspect of any visit to the precinct. First time I have refused to stay in a hotel. Nothing like the pictures on Booking.com

    rating28 Feb 2026

I booked via booking.com, and based on the pics to the left. When I entered the room, it was incredibly dark, and I searched for more lights only to find that there werent any - really, really dark. The rook didnt look anything like the pics - really unfinished. Very very old. Then found that the air conditioning didnt cool - I went to reception and they said they could get it working from there to reduce below the 22.5 that was set. Went back to the room and tried to log onto the internet. it was slow slow that it was completely unusable, at which stage I requested a refund, and found an amazing hotel at the same price - Indigo Cory Norris-Jones, General Manager at The Como Melbourne, responded to this review Dear K5786MGsoniad,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. A really disappointing experience

    rating20 Feb 2026

Disappointing stay due to poor communication, poor housekeeping and maintenance. To keep it simple I shall list the issues:1) pre ordered cheese platter was not delivered to the room and required follow up.2) previous guests half drunk wine was still in the bar fridge. Doesn't housekeeping check these things?3) maintenance on the hotel water pipes somewhere meant that dirty water came out of bathroom taps despite us trying to run it through. No one from the hotel advised us of the plumbing work being done or came to check on the water quality. This meant we had to use water from the mini bar for teeth brushing. Reception was told about this issue but I was still charged $8 for the water which required further follow up on my part to get the charge reversed.4) I was charged for the 'complimentary' welcome bottle of wine (which also needed follow up for reversal). There's no hotel bar which is not a big deal but staff should manage the beverage service better. It's obvious that staff don't write notes on the guest profile so that other staff know what is going on with the guest.5) Housekeeping in the room needs improvement as one bedside light not working, or tested by staff. The balcony door hadn't been cleaned in ages. The balcony floor drain was blocked and flooded. The bathroom exhaust fan was full of dust and fluffy. Obviously not cleaned in weeks. Stains on the sofa.6) Plants in the outdoor garden next to the room were half dead. Obviously not watered or maintained. Overall a really disappointing stay with a less than 5 star experience. Great South Yarra hotel

    rating22 Nov 2025

It’s a good hotel to reminisce about the 90’s when this hotel rocked. It still has the penthouse suites will sauna and spa to fit 6 adults. The hotel is a fair bit outdated but you can’t question the service, size of rooms, location and reasonable pricing.
