  We stayed one night in the Alex Hotel as we were going to a gig nearby. We had a balcony room as when booking through a booking site, a free upgrade was offered. The balcony was nice to have, but we didn't use it as there is only one chair and no other chair in the room to take outside. The location is great if you want to be in the heart of the city, however we stayed on a Thursday night and there was a band playing in the pub opposite until at least midnight. It didn't bother us, but might bother some people. The hotel does supply earplugs. The room itself was nice. Simple in style with a very comfortable bed and comfy pillows. Storage is limited, but that seems to be the case in many hotels. It would be fine for a couple of nights but not a long stay. The cord on the hairdryer was oddly very short which means you have to dry your hair at the bathroom mirror rather in the bedroom. The hotel is quite Scandinavian in concept with no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. Instead there is a lounge that guests can use 24/7 where you can help yourself to hot drinks (T2 teabags and coffees from a machine) and filtered water (there are bottles in the fridge you can take back to your room). You can also use the communal fridge for your own room. The lounge and the roof terrace are both really nice communal spaces. We didn't have breakfast as there are lots of great breakfast places nearby. I believe the bar is open 24/7 though we didn't use it. Overall my husband and I liked this hotel a lot and will definitely stay there in the future if we need a well priced hotel in Northbridge. , Owner at Alex Hotel, responded to this review Dear LilyTC,Thank you so much for sharing such a thoughtful and detailed review.   Bad experience.

  Very very disappointed with my stay at this hotel and would not stay here again. I had a family emergency and asked to modify my booking. The receptionist was so rude and flagged policy making me pay for nights I didn’t even stay in the hotel for. There are no ammenities in the room and the room was dirty, especially the bathroom. The hotel is also located near several construction sites and you can hear drilling and machinery the whole night.   This hotel is a fantastic choice if you want to be right in the heart of everything. Its location is excellent—just a short walk to major museums and the train station, making it incredibly convenient for sightseeing and getting around.The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with very stylish decor throughout. I especially loved the roof terrace and the first-floor lounge area, both perfect spots to relax after a busy day. Breakfast was also a highlight, with a great selection to start the day.That said, it’s worth noting that the area can get quite noisy on Friday and Saturday nights due to nearby bars. The hotel does provide earplugs, which is a thoughtful touch, but light sleepers may still find it disruptive.   The best I can say is for $304 it was pure s h i t. Backpacker accomodation is better. So disappointed.   I know the desired "vibe" is that of a cozy, quaint accommodation, but I would rather have less cozy and more comfort and convenience. There's no mini fridge, and our room had only one chair. There was only a bar along the wall to hang clothes. The bathroom was quite large. I'd rather have less bathroom and more room. An upgrade was suggested at check-in for a room with a balcony, but as I saw from the outside, the balconies were tiny and IMO not worth the extra $. I have stayed in many hotels and motels, and I have never been charged for a continental breakfast. For $20+, the charge seemed way out of line - especially for such a limited selection.Having said all that, I really liked the sitting/lounge area. The access to a variety of complimentary beverages was much appreciated.The staff were very pleasant, and the location is very convenient for transportation and eats. It's a short walk to the CBD. As much as it seems I have complained, we did enjoy our stay. Still though, it wouldn't take much to make it an exceptional hotel. Make the rooms more accommodating - add a chair. Add a minifridge. Put in an armoire. Provide a complimentary continental breakfast.
