Not impressed, plenty of other options

    rating21 Jan 2026

Absolutely subpar from check in to check out. The location is pretty enough but the service was nothing special apart from Genevieve who was absolutely fantastic and handled our wine tasting on our first day. Everything else is very “on your own” from lunch to housekeeping (which is not offered unless requested before 3 so we had full trash bins and wet towels for our stay) while the stay is not on your own pricing. We went to have dinner at 8pm at the restaurant to be told we had to wait to see if the manager would allow us to sit down (as if we were a burden whilst guests of the hotel) and that it was a special menu which was incredibly restrictive, we did not stay and were told to return the menus to the desk as if we worked here. The pool was empty, no wifi in the gym despite me asking the spa and everything is a charge despite our room upgrade. Would not recommend.

Quality wines, standout food, and professional service in a relaxed, well-kept estate. A genuinely enjoyable visit.

    rating13 Jan 2026

We are return guests and Balgownie Estate has become a place we actively look forward to revisiting. We’ve stayed on site multiple times, dined at the restaurant more times than we can count, and built a small but serious collection of their wines over the year.Accommodation is consistently comfortable, well maintained, and positioned perfectly to enjoy the estate without feeling crowded or rushed. It’s a place designed to slow you down—and it succeeds. The restaurant simply does not miss. We’ve eaten here a dozen times and the quality has been unwavering. Our personal favourites are the rockling tacos, Wagyu sliders, and the triple-cooked fat chips—simple dishes executed properly, with flavour always front and centre. There’s confidence in the kitchen, and it shows. The wines are where Balgownie truly shines. Over the past 12 months, we’ve enjoyed and cellared the 2005 Estate Shiraz, 2005 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, 2008 Estate Shiraz, 2009 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013 and 2015 Old Vine, the 2017 Railway Block (our standout favourite), the 2018 Centre Block, and more recently the 2023 and 2024 Viognier—both excellent examples of a clean, well-balanced white done right.Staff are consistently friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful without being intrusive. You’re treated like a returning guest, not a transaction, which matters.Balgownie Estate delivers quality across wine, food, accommodation, and service—and does so reliably. That’s why we keep coming back.

New Year’s Eve at Balgownie was outstanding. Amazing food, excellent and super friendly service. Great music topped off the night. Needless to say the wines were fantastic as well. Highly recommended.

    CHRISTMAS DINNER

    rating25 Dec 2025

We had Christmas dinner here and stayed overnight. The dinner was excellent with an amazing array of seafood, cold cuts, salads, roast meats, vegetables and accompaniments, followed by a plentiful choice of deserts and fresh fruit. All extremely well prepared and replenished regularly. We opted for the drinks package too and the wait staff replenished our glasses regularly. Breakfast was excellent too, the best bacon I’ve tasted since leaving England 25 years ago. I did think it was a bit cheap skate to add an additional charge for Barista made coffee. We booked the “Entry level” room. Whilst the bed was very comfortable and all the usual amenities were provided. The room was claustrophobicly small, with hardly any storage space for clothes and NO view whatsoever Overall we were happy with the experience but would book a more expensive room next time
