    Nice hotel, poor restaurant

    rating04 Apr 2026

Nice hotel set on a golf course. The hotel itself is very good with very pleasant staff.Unfortunately, the restaurant let's the side down. At dinner we waited over 30 minutes just to place an order. Staff were great, just not very effective. The food was decidedly average, not in keeping with the feel of the hotel.Breakfast...... what a disaster zone. Not sufficient food out for the number of guests. Many items kept running out. There are 3 self serve Nespresso coffee machines with long queues and often out off action for maintenance. The cooked offering was grim.

    Poor service

Turned up from airport at 8pm to be told 'plumbibg issued' meant our reservation had been cancelled. Wereade to feel like it was our fault we didn't know this. Hotel had contacted agent a few days ago they said. Agent is adamant no contact was made. Interestingly in hotel website rooms still available to book so something very strange was going on.Had been rebooked into a hotel half an hour away on a main road, not exactly the county experience we thought we were getting. Had to pay for the second hotel myself, and have had no refund from Yarra Valley so currently have paid for two hotels and stayed in one.Be very wary of staying here, there behaviour is very strange. Yarra Valley Lodge 🌿

    rating08 Jul 2025

Stayed here for two nights with my mum and it’s such a beautiful place. The property is massive, and would be such a good place to visit in the warmer months. We had a room with two double beds, the room was quite big which was great. The bathroom is quite outdated, so don’t expect too much with that. Other than that, couldn’t fault the room at all. One issue we did have (and why it’s 4 stars): We had booked in the Bella Restaurant booked for the Friday night (which I booked way in advance), got a message a week before to say the restaurant was now closed and we could move our booking to the Saturday. It didn’t work for us, so we didn’t worry about it. We got our booking moved to their other restaurant which was the Lodge Bar. We rocked up to our booking and it’s a small room, PACKED with people. We were so confused? We had to ask the front desk if it was the right room as it was just a bar and few small tables inside. But there were people just standing around (from a function) and we had no idea what to do, where was our table? We booked and everything? Not long after everyone left and went into the Bella Restaurant (which I thought was confusing, because I was told it was closed?) but they had some type of function which was either planned late or the online booking system just didn’t block out that night. Once we finally could get a seat, the two guys working in there were run off their feet from serving all those people. You could tell they needed at least one or two more to help them, but they still gave us good service and did a great job. The food in there (luckily) was amazing! We ordered the gnocchi, steak and side of chips. All 10/10 🔥 We ordered room service the second night as we didn’t want a repeat of the first night (they had a tonne of people in there again), the food was great and the staff are all so lovely, I just feel like there needs to be more communication about the lodge bar and bookings. If people have a booking then shouldn’t they take precent over people coming from or going to a function? Yarra Valley Lodge EVT, Guest Services / Front Office at Yarra Valley Lodge, responded to this review Dear GoPlaces05226496748Thank you for your review! We are thrilled to read you enjoyed your stay at Yarra Valley Lodge, especially the grounds. We are truly in a beautiful part of the world. We appreciate your feedback regarding your dinner reservation. Due to large function, we had to close the Bella Restaurant. We do apologise this was not communicated clearly to you and were unable to provide a relaxed dining experience. We will continue to improve our services. I will pass this on to our Food & Beverage team. It’s great to read you loved the food – I will pass on to our kitchen team.We hope to welcome you back in the future, maybe in the summertime! Lovely Stay

We really enjoyed our stay at the Yarra Valley Lodge. The rooms are generously sized, quiet and have a lovely view overlooking the golf course/grounds. Great breakfast and nice little bar onsite. Friendly staff. Wonderful location at the doorstep to wineries and restaurants. Poor condition, dated, no ameneties

    rating03 Jan 2025

Besides a fairly decent location, or if your only purpose in staying is the golf course, there's not much to love here. Comfy bed, I'll also give them that.(1) No pool - there's one on the property but the hotel doesn't own it. The spa business does, and hotel guests have to pay $19 per adult to use it!! Plus its completely indoor, so no enjoying the weather. There was supposed to be a shallow kids pool, but it was closed and covered smack in the middle of the summer holiday break (first week of Jan). Clearly hasn't been used in ages due to the build up of leaves on the cover, so I wouldn't be expecting the use of that anytime soon it appears.(2) No restaurant - the only food option is limited menu room service from the "sports bar". Again, the main restaurant was "closed for the holiday season". How absurd is that? Closed for the period when everyone can visit? "Pop-up" limited menu restaurant on Friday or Saturday night only. Ridiculous.(3) No mini-bar - yep, a suite with no mini bar. Pretty bad huh?(4) Desperate need of renovation. This was built in the early 2000s and looks every bit from that era. Probably not had anything renovated since. We stayed in the Juniper Suite, which was nice and large. But had the cheapest oldest crappy white mini fridge sitting in a delapidated cabinet. No ice, no mini bar, no snacks or drinks of any kind. The carpet was appalling (I took lots of pictures) with huge stains that look like theyre from a crime scene. Holes, rips, and wrinkles everywhere. Very very poor. We refused to go barefoot, that's how bad it was. The shower was tiny, like motorhome sized. Couldn't have been bigger than 600mm square. Ancient shower head bad tiles, and a plastic shower tray floor that is no longer glued down and squeakes and moves when you shift your weight. There's a jetted spa bathtub, but it had huge chunks out of the plastic ridges in the 'floor' of the tub, making it uncomfortable to sit in. Thw bathroom door was rotting away at the base, clearly visible from inside the bathroom with the door closed. Looks like something from a truckstop.(5) Sub-par breakfast. Don't get me wrong there were lots of options, but none of them were nice. Stale bread for toast, soggy eggs sitting in a banmarie full of water (scrambled egg soup is not appetizing), mini pastries that were clearly frozen but not fully thawed before they were set out.(6) No ameneities for kids. No parkland. No playground. Nothing. In summary, needless to say we won't be staying there again. Very disappointed especially for the price. Highly do not recommend if you have kids and/or plan on spending any time at your hotel. Poor value for money, way better options available in the region. Thank you Yarra Valley Lodge, Guest Services / Front Office at Yarra Valley Lodge, responded to this review Dear Jeremiah Thank you for the feedback. I do apologise that we didn’t meet your expectations on your recent stay. We always strive to provide a wonderful experience for all our guests so this review is disappointing to read. I have passed on your feedback to our Food & Beverage team regarding the breakfast. This is certainly not our normal standards. We have our restaurant opening hours on our website, I do apologise if this was not clear when booking. Regarding the room, I have informed our Housekeeping team of your feedback. We appreciate the information. Next time feel free to notify our staff so we can offer a room move. We want you to be comfortable and happy with our services. Whilst the none of the rooms offer a mini-bar, we do have snacks and drinks to available to purchase from our reception which is open 24 hours a day. I do hope you enjoyed your time exploring the Yarra Valley. If you are travelling in the area again, we would love to welcome you back. Feel free to contact me directly on melissa_anderson@yarravalleylodge.com for the best offer. Warm wishesMelissa Anderson Front Office Manager
