Stay (and sleep) spoiled by owner's son's loud party next door

    rating23 Dec 2020

The B&B itself is lovely: nicely decorated, very clean, and well fitted out. We stayed on 19 December and the owner (whose family lives in the house next door) did say that we might hear some off colour language because her son was hosting his annual Christmas party. She did not tell us that we would be subjected to blasting music and loud whoops and hollers until well after midnight -- and the noise ended then only because my friend got out of bed, walked over and asked them to put an end to it. Personally, I was thinking of calling the police to get them to end it. I think the owners need to realise that they are running a business, not a hobby, and to make clear that such disruptive behaviour from their own family is not acceptable.I also found the bed (in room 2) too hard and the pillows too thin. The windows need more substantial coverings than slatted wooden blinds, because when the sun rose at 5:30am it blasted straight into the room.

Wow now this is living such a lovey place to stay. Judy & Peter have made such an effort to think of everything. Super clean and comfortable. Breakfast was so yummy. We had a fabulous 2 night getway definitely will be back.

    Warm and Friendly hosts

Judy went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed, nothing was too much trouble. Well worth paying the extra for a hot breakfast, it was home cooked and delicious. Comfortable bed and the room had some nice little touches to make you feel welcome.

You Could Hear a Pin Drop

    rating11 Nov 2019

You could hear a pin drop as we sat and enjoyed a local pizza and wine on the deck in the late evening, after a very long drive. This place is impeccably clean and the hosts very helpful. We booked the Superior room but still found it quite small and the step to the bathroom a bit of a problem. Our room also opened directly to the communal space. We found the advertisement somewhat confusing, although the confusion re the hot breakfast was quickly resolved by Judy. Our room was advertised as having a private balcony but the communal deck was actually outside the building. We also did not receive a welcome gift that we can recall.

    Perfect overnight stay

    rating09 Sept 2019

So you're heading north from Melbourne on your road trip and looking for your first night's accommodation? You won't do better or be happier than if you take the opportunity to stay at Church House. Why? Basically, all down to comfort and attention to detail. The church renovation has been specifically designed for B&B, so everything is just right. There's only three rooms, each with ensuite, with a shared lounge and kitchen/breakfast area. The hosts have through of every little detail, and make sure you are looked after, even down to making sure your room is nice and warm on a cold afternoon. They are long-time residents, so can tell you all about Gundagai, its history, and where to eat an evening meal. The breakfast is well set up, though you'll pay a little extra for a hot meal - we found the continental breakfast entirely adequate. And, importantly, the bed is very comfortable. We liked it so much we stayed there again on the way home.
