  Good location. Our room and the hotel generally was spotlessly clean. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was excellent. There was a lot of virtue signalling going on as to why there were no room amenities but the lack of bottled water was irritating. Also found it a tad penny pinching that there was no free WiFi or parking for hotel guests. Especially since the room cost wasn’t exactly cheap - a lot to pay for the use of a bed and shower for one night.

  The hotel kindly upgraded me due to my status with Accor. Unfortunately the bed was very uncomfortable. The room was large, but rather dated in places. Bathroom was fine. The corridors also, appeared rather dated and require maintenance on skirting and walls. Fast wifi was refunded due to Accor membership which was nice. The TV is a relic circa 2003, and as I did not have a VGA cable, it couldn’t cast movies or streaming. Check in and check out staff were friendly. Cleaners had done a good job. The hotel doesn’t offer welcome water bottles any more due to their ‘commitment to the environment’, nor are welcome amenities available, however the latter can be ordered if needed.   Disappointing management

  We dined at the Palisades on 6th August. The meal was delicious and the service good. All patrons were wearing coats and puffer jackets as it was very cold. I asked for the air conditioner to be turned up but it didn’t happen. Our meal went cold quickly due to the fans blasting out cold air. The lights above us were swaying in the breeze. When we told the manager on duty about our experience, she said that’s how management wants it. We are locals and extremely disappointed in this experience. Plenty of other restaurants in Wollongong are more comfortable for dining.   This hotel is a function centre and the ocean view rooms all face and overlook the roof of the functions. I stayed on a Saturday night as I had an event to attend early Sunday morning. The music for the function (wedding) started at 6pm to 12pm. It was loud and thumping and could be heard and vibrated inside the room. Impossible to sleep or utilise the balcony during the stay due to the level of music. When asked to be moved to another room was advised the noise is unavoidable and I should be aware that it is a function hotel. I would not recommend.   Good value, with a few areas of improvement.

  Visiting for the Wings over Shellharbour air show, I arrived late Sunday arvo. There was a short wait while the sole staff member finished checking in another guest. A second staff member eventually emerged from the back office. Check-in was friendly and welcoming, however could have been more informative in terms of hotel facilities. As an Accor Gold, I was kindly upgraded to an Ocean View room on the upper floor.The hotel is in a lovely location, seconds from the beach and a short 20 min walk into the town centre. Public areas are clean, spacious and mostly fresh however the guest corridor painting is in need of refresh (lots of scuff marks). The pool area is very dated. The guest room was comfortable, however some signs of age including a dated TV (no streaming), no bedside plugs and poorly maintained paintwork. In terms of sleep quality, the mattress was extremely soft and there was intermittent banging/knocking sounds that woke me twice during the night. No bottled water nor reusable bottle to fill - a sign suggesting to use tap water or go to the bar.I had breakfast in the hotel - the buffet had a good selection and cooked items were tasty and fresh. In all, some areas of improvement however still a good-value option if visiting the Gong.
