The lights are off and nobody's home

    rating07 Jan 2025

Glenferrie Lodge closed its doors on 28th November, 2024.Arriving on Christmas Eve, I was met by cyclone wire fencing, barring entry, and to leaves blowing around an empty driveway.Fortunately I received a refund, from the booking agency, who were very helpful and prompt. They also found me another accommodation option but it was in the city, not where I wanted to be - a rabbit from a hat on Christmas Eve, regardless. Then a friend offered a bed and retrieved me from the gutter - literally. There was nowhere else to sit.Less fortunately, Glenferrie did not let me know that they could not honour the booking. They also don't appear to have let the booking agency know. The payment was taken a week after their closure.Glenferrie Lodge continues to be promoted online. The link goes to, what amounts to, a dead end but nonetheless, they're advertised as having good rates. Don't be taken in by propaganda. Just because it's online doesn't make it so.I am posting to ensure clarity and avoid confusion: this business is no longer in operation. The story seems to be that they have received planning permission to place a five storey extension in the backyard. There goes the neighbourhood. Ambience lost in the name of progress and profit. Somehow courtesy seems also to have lost its way.

    Sydney marathon weekend stay

    rating18 Sept 2024

Lovely quiet location, quick walk down to the wharf for the ferry trip to circular quay. Basic bedrooms and a shared bathroom, which was not a problem. Terrific breakfast, plenty of hot options. Stayed for the Sydney marathon so only a 2.5km walk to the start line at north Sydney oval. Very close to the bridge. Would stay again.

    Moth Eaten

    rating16 Jun 2024

Absolutely awful condition. The photos must have been taken a decade ago.I would recommend avoiding. The neighborhood is good, but even for budget accommodation you expect a higher level of maintenance. Rooms are crammed in together, and lots of noise.

    Great spot, close to action

    rating22 May 2024

A great spot and close to the action. Train from the airport to Wynyard and then across the bridge. 5 mins from the station but a world away from Sydney CBD. Simple rooms, solid breakfast. Access to 2 ferry’s, bus, train and Ubers. Morning walk to the harbour a must.
