A day in the life of a Brit at Nomads, Sydney

    rating01 Nov 2023

After getting the train from Sydney airport to town hall station, you’re grateful that your hostel is just round the corner and easy to get to. The only thing standing in your way now is the homeless man on the pavement outside. You check in with a fellow Brit at reception and are asked to download the ‘Goki’ app. “Please,” you say, “I’ve stayed at a Nomads before. I know the gig.” Your next mission, should you choose to accept it, is to get your luggage in the slow and small elevator. But you know that as soon as you make for the stairs, that’s when the doors will open. So you wait… and wait…Eventually you make it to your room and decide to take a shower. However, you have to kneel down to access the trickle of luke-warm water that comes of out the shower head because you’re not a dwarf. You also go to fill up your water bottle, trying to be eco conscious and not buy a new one. But because your bottle is slightly bigger than 15ml you can’t fit it under the tap in the sink. So you go on a quest to find the kitchen in the basement.Upon seeing the state of cleanliness that the kitchen is in, you have second thoughts about cooking tonight and instead choose health over food poisoning. Fortunately, you’re in the city centre with an abundance of places to eat nearby. You go and treat yourself because you’re staying at Sydney Nomands, you need something to get you through.

Nomads X Backpackers 477 Kent Street Sydney

    rating26 Apr 2023

I spent ages trying to look this up as X Backpackers, Nomads back packers and you have this listed as Base Backpackers. I booked this for 4 nights $214-00 which was quite reasonable. When I got there they said it was $215-60 which I paid. No when I got the receipt in my yahoo it was $220-5 as $4-90 fee. When I complained about this they said it was the agent fee. I sent feed back to the manager and she said they have taken this on board and should pay by Eftos at the hostel and not Visa through an agent. However the lady receptionist was very nice and gave me a single room for no extra charge. I also got two sausages and two pieces of bread and two drinks free at a barbeque night. The housekeeping was rather slack as in four nights they never came to the room and changed the towels, sheets ,empty the bins or new shampoo, conditioner and gel. The receptionist gave me a new towel and went to housekeeping and got gel, shampoo and conditioner but never said to them how slack they were The room was clean. nice bed and secure with a code to get in and TV in the room, so had an enjoyable stay. I never left the milk in the fridge as last time it got stolen or thrown out. Luckily it was ot too hot so not go off!

    Good hostel for solo travel

    rating05 Mar 2023

I stayed here for two weeks during Christmas and New Years. The hostel is very sociable and it’s easy to meet people. There’s a nice kitchen downstairs. While I did very much enjoy my stay, there were also some downsides. For the full two weeks I stayed there, my room didn’t get a proper clean once. They usually came in once a day, vacuumed a little bit and that was that. There was also still some stuff in the room that didn’t belong to any of us staying in the room at the time. So must belong to people that stayed there before we did. The bathrooms were kind of dirty as well most of the time. But I guess it was also the time of year and the hostel being very busy. Overall my stay was fine. Katie Wilcher, General Manager at Base Backpackers, responded to this review Hi Maud,Many thanks for your feedback. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay for the most part. We've recently added more cleaners to our team to improve the general cleanliness within the hostel. We hope to welcome you back in the not so distant future so you can experience an improved stay. Many Thanks,Nomads Sydney Team

    Great Location

    rating09 Feb 2023

Location will be the strongest advantage for this hostel. It was centrally located to all the attractions and easy access to townhall station. Staff were friendly and helpful. It did get noisy but its fine as its a backpackers hostel and you must expect young crowd having a good time. Washrooms did get messy but a staff was cleaning it regularly and you could always contact staff for a prompt action. Good value for money and great location.

    Great stay, lovely hostel!

    rating01 Feb 2023

When we checked in they offered me and my girlfriend a private room for the night which was a lovely gesture, the other 8 nights we was in a 10 person dorm, was cleaned everyday and the beds themselves were very comfy, where you have your own shelf with a light and plug socket, the showers and toilets were always clean and plenty of them! They had free ping pong in the common area as well as a cinema room. The kitchen was very big and loads of stoves for cooking however no oven! They had a club next door called scary canary, which we had free access to as they are connected to the hostel, they had different events going on there every night so always plenty to do! Discounted prices for drinks when you show your room key. The staff were amazing and always so friendly and helpful, lovely hostel and amazing location right in the centre of everything!
