  Rude staff, dirty.There were hairs on the window of the shower in the ensuite room (who knows from when, as we were 3 people in the room, no-one with that color or length).The staff was super unfriendly, and for what I've seen in other reviews it's been like that for a while as well.Won't come back.

  The place is dirty and a complete mess no ventilation in rooms. We stayed in room 8. The bed was covered in dirt the floor was coved in dirt. There was. Empty shampoo and conditioner bottles in the bathroom. They put zero effort in to cleaning the room b4 we arrived. The beds are thin as hardly slept the last 2 days because of the springs popping through the mattress they say on the websites that they do free Breakfast which hasn't been the case in a few months. They expect you to pay for towles Cups plates ect. The staff are horrible and the TV's in the rooms don't work. We just decided to leave and stay at the town hall hostel just 5min down the road for a extra $10 a night which is so much better. Then here. I would never recommend staying here even if it's just a place to sleep of a night. You'd have a better sleep on aa bench in a park then that dump

  I checked in to this place as a base to figure out where I want to live in Sydney. The hostel is in a great location but that’s just about the only good thing about this place. My room was propped open by the bin so I wasnt convinced it was secure when I left so I crammed everything I had into the locker. The room was a mess (not the hostels fault), clothes everywhere and just had a dingy vibe. Within 10 mins of being there I felt so uncomfortable due to some of the strange guests I came across and left feeling like I didn’t want to return. I could’ve asked to change rooms but I booked another place ASAP and instantly felt a relief as I left. This wasn’t expected as I have stayed in 3 or 4 summer house hostels and had a great experience each time. Other guests seemed fine with the place so maybe it’s just me but I didn’t mind losing $150 on a whole weeks accommodation just to get out.

  Overall an unpleasant stay in (Billabong Gardens), which is now rebranded as Summer House Newtown, part of the Summer House hostel chain.There was a short bald Australian guy, who was notably obnoxious to deal with, and made offensive remarks about women. The manager was also a socially awkward individual to have to deal with. The location is okay, close to King Street, and many restaurants and shops. Walking distance to Broadway Shopping Centre, and city.The real problem with this hostel is with the many infantile rules that they have, the lack of atmosphere or friendliness, and the lack of cleanliness. I had bugs in my room, running around on the floor.Based on my stay, I would not want to recommend this hostel, there are better ones in Sydney.

  A good place to stay for a reasonable price

  Now known as Summer House , New Town. Pleasant and helpful staff generally the occupants are under thirty most are very pleasant some are irresponsible and would be better housed in a pigsty. The accommodation varies most have shower rooms ours was clean and perfectly ok, about 20 minutes bus ride to the center of Sydney.
