The hotel is the perfect location when you need a place to stay in the city! Down the street from the nightlife and across the bridge from not only a street of restaurants but also the home of the North Queensland Cowboys, Queensland Country Bank Stadium!

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment and were disappointed to be told that all of the apartments of this type are on lower floors with city rather than sea views. This seems rather strange for a higher grade room at a higher price than those rooms which enjoy an expansive and elevated sea view. In addition, the windows, unlike higher level rooms, are only half height so you cannot see the view while sitting down or from the bed.The hotel is well located in the middle of the Townsville business area, which regrettably is now full of empty shops, and close to The Strand, football stadium and restaurants. The room was satisfactory and recently refurbished but rather drab in decor and very clean. The hotel public areas are expansive and pleasant and we visited the roof top pool, which was terrific (although demonstrated the views we missed out on!).The staff were pleasant.

I stayed four nights in an executive king room. I was warmly welcomed at reception and soon in my room. Room 1707 had superb views over the Ross River, Stadium and out to Magnetic Island. The location is fantastic, in the heart of the city (but don't expect much in the way of shopping, it's mainly cafes and restaurants) and walkable to the Strand. The Grand Chancellor is an icon of Townsville, but the rooms, corridors and exterior are rather drab.The rooms are comfortable and well furnished, but the carpet, feature wall and bathroom tiles they have chosen made the rooms look rather dull. Which is a pity as I think this icon deserves better, the cabinets, bedhead, chairs and coffee table are all nice though. The first two days I had a lovely housekeeper who kept my room looking good, however on the third night I must have had a different cleaner as the bed was roughly made and my dirty coffee mug was not replaced. There were also some areas in the shower that needed attention.I had dinner in the Sugar Shaker Restaurant and both the service food were very good, my pork cutlet was very tasty, I also enjoyed the coconut brulee but I wasn't sure if the texture was quite right. The buffet breakfast was very good, although I was surprised by the lack of scrambled eggs. I also had room service, the steak and mushroom pie and bread and butter pudding were absolutely delicious, but it took an hour to come.The Grand Chancellor has lovely public areas, the rooms are ok, the views however are spectacular especially from the rooftop pool area, so I am happy to recommend it.

We go to Townsville fairly often and normally stay somewhere on the Strand , this was a first for us , we found the Hotel Grand Chancellor in a great location ( we had a room overlooking Cowboys Stadium ) and right in the middle of town , reception were friendly and helpful , we also ordered room service and wow was the best room service we have had in ages , was delicious

this hotel is 20 storeyed cylindrical building , which rooms on 11 floor +++ have their own balcony ,featuring view of castle hill from the north . it's so perfect for rooftop swimming pool on 20th floor (open air).specially, there is cotter market at finder street on Sunday 8:00-13:00, at the hotel .room space is very comfortable, winder with 180 degree view.
