    Everything was meh.

    rating10 Nov 2025

Firstly, the staff were great, extremely friendly and helpful. Everything else is meh. If you have Sleep apnea, you better travel with an extension cord as there are no wall plugs anywhere near the beds. If you’re allergic to dust, don’t touch/go near the bedside tables, absolutely covered in dust. Rooms are old and tired, need to be brought into this century. The bathtub had what looked like wet dirt stains on it. The door handle into the room broke, and the door felt flimsy anyways. Geckos were everywere (I like geckos but some might not) Every bird in Townsville will come by, sit on the balcony railing and squawk at 5am extremely loud and since the windows/walls are thin, you hear it all. 3 mugs but only 1 spoon? When we arrived, there was barely a roll of toilet paper left on the holder, and no spares so barely enough to use overnight. The bedding was just some wadding sandwiched in between sheets, about 4-5 layers of sheets/wadding, so strange, and I sleep like a washing machine so this just didn’t work for me. The “pillow” provided was so flat it could count as no pillows provided, so I asked for a spare when I went to get more toilet paper. Add to that and our second night other guests were running and screaming and causing so much disturbance on top of the pathetic experience that I will never return.

Disappointing Stay at a 4-Star Hotel

    rating24 Oct 2025

If my intention were to review an outback, dated side-of-the-road motel, I would have given this establishment a good rating. However, that is not the case; my review concerns my recent stay at a branded 4-star hotel, which unfortunately did not meet the expectations set by its rating. This hotel claims to have refurbished bathrooms, and while there have been changes, the upgrades do not reflect the level of class expected from a 4-star venue. Specifically, the use of floor-to-ceiling Laminex does not justify being labelled as a stylish renovation or improvement.Upon using the provided room amenities, I found only two cups and two water and two wine glasses in the unit. These items were mismatched, leaving the impression that the hotel sourced them from a second-hand shop rather than investing in matching glassware and crockery for its guests. The walk to the room involved traversing a red brick footpath. Many of these bricks were loose and shifted underfoot, turning what should have been a simple walkway into something of an adventure path. The check-in process was efficient but marred by an arrogant attitude from staff. In the 15 days prior to this stay, I had spent time at multiple country-style motels and 10 nights at various ACCOR-branded hotels. I can confidently state that the check-in at this hotel was the most arrogant of all, standing out for all the wrong reasons.

nice on the outside, and nice facilities - but you dont sleep on the outside do you.

    rating18 May 2025

I am extremely dissatisfied. The room was filthy, from general furniture and fittings being extremely old and worn, to the curtains being old and frayed, and not even large enough to cover the windows completely. The walls were covered in finger prints, and dings that had been plastered over, but not painted over. The floor was covered in scratches and scuff marks, there were tumble weed like hairballs with full toe nail clippings, it was disgusting. The remote control for the Air Con was literally covered in grime.Air con was old and loud.Wardrobe Doors did not open. There were fifty plus mosquitoes in the room, there were two redback (Black Widow Equivalent) spiders nesting in the corners. The entry door was old and discoloured, the hinges were rusted. The bathroom door was warped and falling apart. The bathroom window was old and should have had a blind. There are no USB points in the room, either in the wall sockets, or in the clock radios, so I could not even charge my phone.I did not sleep well at all.I stayed at the Mercure as I thought it had a recognised brand and I could rely on this to be a quality venue. My stay at the Mercure in Townsville I would have to rate as one of the worst experiences I have ever had. What makes this worst is that this was a business trip, and I did not feel comfortable enough in the room to sit at the desk, to use the non ergonomic chairs to catch up on emails. I did not feel comfortable to unpack my clothes for the next day. I simply did not want to touch any surface.
