Lots of confusing reviews on TripAdvisor, as there is a hotel and a lodge/hostel on the same site, but this review is for the hotel, which was excellent and is highly recommended.The hotel is in the Ayers Rock Resort site, and benefits from the free site shuttle plus lots of onsite activities for when you aren’t at the rock itself. The rooms are outstanding, like a very upmarket Premier Inn (for UK readers), with everything you need. Decent blackout curtains, very quiet, well equipped bathrooms with fluffy towels, decent toiletries, magnifying mirror, walk in shower etc. Room has well illuminated table to sit at, fridge, tea/coffee facilities with Dilmah tea, loads of luggage space and extremely comfortable beds (high thread count bedding).Onsite there is a lively outdoor but undercover bbq restaurant and bar with a very good salad bar and jacket potatoes. You choose your meat and use the set up barbecues to cook it, great fun. We had live music while we were there and there was a great atmosphere, although it does all stop at about 9.30pm, as most people have early starts for sunrise tours. But if this isn’t your thing, you can use any of the other restaurants on the resort, we took the shuttle bus to the Desert Sands hotel one night and had a lovely à la carte meal. The free activities are very high quality too, especially the didgeridoo workshop which was one of the highlights of our Australia tour.Highly recommended

Good sized room. Aircon & tv worked well. Bedding & bathroom was clean. Everything we needed for a basic two night stay. Out of all the hotels in Yulara, this one is the furthest out from town square, so bare in mind if consider in booking. It’s a 15min walk, or use shuttle bus/own transport. Outback Hotel not to be confused with Outback Lodge

Outback Hotel and Outback Lodge are on the same campus but are different levels of accommodation, and I had some misgivings before our trip because of some of the reviews I've read here. I'm now convinced that the reviews that speak of old, dirty, buggy accommodation most likely refer to Outback Lodge, which mainly consists of dorm-style basic accommodation. Outback Hotel, where we stayed, was clean and modern, quiet, serviced daily and had good quality toiletries. Only thing is that there were days when they missed servicing our room, but this was always quickly remedied when I rang up Reception. Our room had a fridge which didn't work and it was promptly replaced when I rang up. The service at Reception was always friendly and helpful. Surprising bonus is that there are LOTS of power points in the room. Buffet breakfast is available in the restaurant and is cheaper if you prepay at Reception at least the night before; the selection was excellent though the food quality was not as good as city hotels. The kiosk is open for a good part of the day, and we were pleasantly surprised by the tempura fish and chips. In addition to food bought from the kiosk, we also brought along some salad and drinks that we bought from the IGA to save money and give us more choices beyond the kiosk. We also visited the lobbies or restaurants of a couple of the other hotels, and overall, felt happy with the value-for-money of Outback Hotel - it's about the middle of the pack and good enough for us. Within easy walking distance to the self-cook BBQ place and to view Ayers Rock

The room had what we needed. Accommodation in Ayers Rock Resort is expensive. Outback Hotel was one of the more affordable stays in Yulara. Our room was within easy walking distance to the self-cook BBQ place and within walking distance to the hill top for view of Ayers Rock. This review covers both the Outback Lodge and the Outback Hotel.We had booked the lodge, a private room with en suite, for $300/night. We knew it was a lodge, we knew it would be basic. There's clearly a limited accommodation choice.We got to our room after driving from Alice and found it was filthy. We went back to reception, and they gave us another room so back we went. If we thought the first one was bad, the second one was even worse! It included a bed which, with the sheet pulled back, showed lots of dead bugs and sands between the bed sheet and sheet to sleep under (as if someone else had slept in there and the bedding hadn't been changed).We went back to reception again... they were apologetic and didn't understand how it could have happened. We explained we knew we were in the outback but this seemed quite extreme/something didn't seem right. They then found us a room in the Outback Hotel; it had a clean bed, dirty bathroom, but we took it as by this point we were exhausted (showered in flip flops/sliders!). For dinner, we headed to the bar at the main part of the resort only to find the published bar food times were incorrect - we were lucky and got there with five minutes to spare so could order!Uluru is a stunning location and seeing the sun set, and taking an early morning walk as the sun rose, was wonderful but the monopoly on accommodation made for a challenge. There's a significant difference between basic, and filthy and unhygienic. We chose not to use the pools or communal cooking facilities after the amount of time we'd spent trying to sort accommodation (and wondering what state they may have been in!).
