The Place to stay in Uluru!

    rating20 May 2026

We had a 3 night stay at Sails and were more than staisfied with the hotel and its amenities. We had booked many months ago, as this was on my wife's bucket list, and the company we booked through gave us inclsuions of a free breakfast each day and entry to the Field of Light experience. The entrance to the hotel is airy and relaxed and we walked down to the back of the lobby to be checked-in. We found the staff at check-in to be polite, courteous and efficient and this was seen throughout our stay in other areas also.We had a well appointed room on the top floor of the complex and it was clean and spacious. (A little bit of paint peel in a corner but nothing concerning.) There's a couple of lifts in operation to get to the upper levels or you can use the many staircases. The quality of sleep we had during our stay was excellent as the beds were comfortable and it was extremely quiet throughout the night.Breakfast at the Ilkari restaurant were very good with a large choice of hot and cold food. We didn't eat dinner here as the price of the buffet ($100+) was somewhat excessive, and a deterrent, so we chose the outside option of the Pira Pool Bar which we loved. It had a very chilled atmosphere and there was enough menu choice to please us both. The chilli squid tentacles were extremely moreish! The Walpa Lobby Bar is a convenient option for drinks and snacks and we usually hit this bar after our daily excursions.(I read that some have complained about the prices of food and drinks etc but you have to take into account the logistics of being in the centre of Australia with little else around.)A short walk from Sails is a look out which takes no more than 10 minutes to reach and you can get a great view of Uluru from here. The hotel also advertises it's free guest activities designed to give you more of an insight into Aboriginal history, customs and traditions. We did the Bush Yarns and The Gallery of Central Australia Tour which were both enjoyable.I'm not sure how good the other hotels are but I would be surprised if they offer anything as good as what Sails in the Desert has to offer. Thank you!
