Unprofessional, hostile management and poor cleanliness, avoid

    rating18 May 2026

I recently stayed here for a two-night photography trip from 16–18 May, and it was one of the worst accommodation experiences I have ever had. There is a massive difference between a professionally run business and a place where you feel like an intruder in someone's private space. The issues started immediately at arrival. There was no greeting or warm welcome, instead, a lady met me at the door and abruptly asked if I was "supposed to be there, if I had my name written on the door." I was then told to find my name on a sticky note on the door to figure out my room. Because no check-in process took place, I was never given any basic information, including breakfast times. I ended up skipping breakfast entirely because I didn't even know if my booking included it.The lack of basic hospitality continued throughout the stay. On my second night, the husband stopped me outside as I was trying to park my car and suspiciously asked if I even had a booking there, proving they don't even bother to track who is currently paying to stay on their property. The rooms themselves do not match the premium price point. I found used shampoo containers left behind in the bathroom on my first day, the towels were so old and faded that they looked khaki-grey rather than white, and my bed was completely left unmade after my first night. As a photographer, I spent almost all of my daylight hours and some of my night time out shooting landscapes and wildlife. When I posted a brief 1-star review elsewhere reflecting this experience, the owners responded publicly with outright lies and personal insults, calling me a "strange fish with issues" and tracking my movements, claiming I was "hiding in my car." The only time they actually saw me in my car was on my final morning when they walked past me with their dogs on a public crescent down the street while I was looking for bird activity.Potential guests should look past the marketing photos. If you leave honest feedback here, the owners will not hesitate to insult you, make false assumptions about your personal behavior, and violate your privacy. Save your money and stay at a professional hotel and accommodation that actually respects paying guests regardless of who they are and where they come from. Dirk Hos, at Margaret River Bed & Breakfast, responded to this review Yes Samuel,You are indeed a strange fish out of water. What are your issues?. What has made you want to be so vindictive? To say we were hostile to you is not possible when you never once spoke to us after you were shown your room. There is a self-check-in notice on the front door which you did not read, nor did you see the note with your name on it on the front door. But that did not matter as you were actually greeted by Pam and shown your room in a very normal manner. It would appear we did not mention to you that breakfast is from 8-10. Sorry, however, not once during your 2 night stay did you come out and ask any questions. To say you skipped breakfast twice because you did not know what time it is available is silly, as it is really quite a simple question to ask. Your hosts are Pam and Dirk who own and have happily operated the B&B since 2008. How can you say you “felt like an intruder in someone’s private space”? I’m not sure what you expected from B&B accommodation. A Bed and Breakfast is that combination of being in a home away from home, with hosts that you can interact with, but at the same time is a hotel, with a lovely room in a great location where you can rest and recuperate in peaceful surroundings. In the mornings you can enjoy a lovely breakfast in a beautiful lounge/dining room. This obviously was not to your liking. We respect guest’s privacy and do not bother people if they want to do their own thing. Some guests chose to not have breakfast and we don’t enquire why. That is not being rude but normal, letting people have all the space they want. However, if you had of come out, you would have found us very hospitable and helpful. It was fortunate that Dirk was putting rubbish in a bin at night and noticed you drive up and was going to park in an awkward place. Yes, he did not know who you were and it was dark but he happily re-directed you. All very normal. You could have come out and said hello but you stayed in your car so he left you to it. Again, we don’t impose on our guests if they don’t want to interact with us. We do apologize if the housekeeper may have missed removing a shampoo container. We have a continuous change over of towels but sometimes the housekeeper puts one out that should have been superseded. We don’t make up the rooms during a stay but happily change towels etc when requested. Again, a very simple question to ask your hosts. However, to say the room showed “poor cleanliness” is being vindictive because it simply is not true.We don’t know what issues you might have that made you not want to contact your hosts for any information. To want to leave such a silly review, claiming “hostile management” and “poor cleanliness” says more about you than you think and that is a shame. Most people find us hosts as genial and full of information to make your stay here a happy and memorable experience. We also get many guests who are happy being left on their own. We are sorry that you thought that, by us not trying to interact with you, was us being rude. That is far from the case.We wish you the best,Pam and Dirk

What a great place to dtay

    rating14 Aug 2025

We stayed here for only one night but really wish we could have stayed for longer. What a beautiful and peaceful place. The hosts Dirk and Pam were really welcoming and gave us some of the honey from their bees when we left.5 minutes from the beach and surf spots and restaurants and only 10 mins from Margret River main town which is lovely. The breakfast was great and the rooms spacious with a huge bathroom which includes a shaker and double spar bath with jets… what more could you want.

We stayed with Dirk & Pam at their gorgeous B&B for 3 nights. It was our second stay and we would highly recommend it. The place exudes warmth and tranquility, and the gardens and bushland are a magnet for birdlife. The rooms are spacious and breakfast is well catered for. Home baked bread, home grown honey and access to wine and chocolate, what's not to love 😄

    Stress-free and incredible

    rating12 Jul 2025

Dirk has been a wonderful host and truly went above and beyond to make our stay special. His place is clean, comfortable, and filled with a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere. You can really feel the care he puts into everything—he provided us with everything we needed and more.He also gave us great recommendations for places to explore, from the beautiful Margaret River region all the way down to Augusta. Thanks to him, we discovered some incredible spots we wouldn’t have found on our own. This has been one of the most relaxing and stress-free stays I’ve ever had. Highly recommend Dirk’s place to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in nature, with a warm and generous host.
