Mixed feelings: overall good, but not perfect

    rating09 Apr 2012

We had a 2 bedroom apartment for 4 nights in April 2012, 2 adults + 2 kids (6 and 10 yrs old). Our friends had a similar one on the floor above, so I've seen two apartments; they are pretty much the same. The good: -the apartments are large, newly built, well furnished, clean. Luxury... well, I would not call then that, but close enough.-there is free parking (plenty).-the location is quiet, with beautiful views from the spacious balcony (all apartments have balconies, with tables and chairs)The bad:-booked through booking.com; to the listed price, Alpin Rentals adds 100 euro cleaning (which is a pretty outrageous amount if you ask me; it takes 1 person at most 3 hrs to clean it up, and don't tell me they pay the cleaning lady 33 euro / hr). Then it also adds 50 euro for "short stay" (less than 7 nights) - 'da hell is that? To be fair, those fees were listed on booking.com, but a) it's misleading because when you are given the price it does not include those, so it's a bit of a "read the fine print" trick and b) the amounts are outrageous, added on an already (relatively) expensive base price. I was first given a price of 616 euro, but after the stuff above I ended up paying ~790 euro. So I paid close to 200 euro / night accommodation only, which is pretty steep for what I got. Bottom line here: NOT good value for money, and the pricing is not 100% clear.-the building is located at the edge of Kaprun (technically I think it's outside of it, since it's across the river, AFTER the city limit sign). The location is quiet, but you MUST have a car to get anywhere (it's about 3 km to city center) and there's NOTHING around (no shops, restaurants, etc).-there are no hairdriers in the bathrooms (luxury? don't think so)-you get 1/2 a roll of toilet paper and 1 tiny square of soap (there are 2 sinks, but you get 1 tiny piece of soap). Our friends had the same deal; we had to buy them on our own. It's not the cost I mind, it's the inconvenience, especially when the place is advertised as "luxury". I mean, you charge me all those extra fees & stuff but you can't offer 3 euro worth of toilet paper & soap? Come on...-pillows SUCKED (very soft & fluffy, they offer no neck support, so we woke up with stiff necks).Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but I think you have better choices in Kaprun. If it you don't find anything else (like us, we booked late and this was the only vacancy we found) then fine, get it, but be prepared to pay more than it's worth (in my opinion).
