Disappointing 5-Star Experience – Overpriced and Poor Service

    rating17 Feb 2026

We stayed at this supposedly 5-star hotel in Austria expecting a relaxing family ski holiday, but the experience fell far short of expectations. The website showed rooms with balconies, which is why we booked – but the fine print said “balcony may not be available.” When we arrived and realized our assigned room had no balcony, we were unhappy and asked to leave or switch. Instead of trying to resolve it amicably, the staff immediately threatened to call the police if we didn’t pay 80% of the full stay. Only after we called their bluff (“go ahead and call”) did they magically find a balcony room in the same category.Even after the switch, the damage was done – the whole incident ruined the start of our trip.Other issues:• No staff available in the evenings to discuss reservations or problems – very inconvenient for a 5-star property.• The ski lockers are tiny; fitting even 2 pairs of skis is nearly impossible, let alone for families with 3-4 people per room. We have no idea how others manage.• The hotel feels seriously overpriced for what it offers.• The restaurant looks fancy, but the food quality is average at best – well below the presentation and price level. We tried to find a fair solution with management, but the aggressive approach (police threats instead of customer care) left a very bad taste. Wouldn’t recommend for families or anyone expecting true 5-star service.Avoid if you’re looking for value and hassle-free stay. What you see is not what you get

    rating16 Feb 2026

the entrance is a bit James Bond through a tunnel - into the car park and wow - heavy smell of weed. OK wasnt expecting that. The bar is not signposted and up about 3 flights of stairs. Drinks were good and very reasonable priced. Nice snacks. Staff talk loudly (argue?) with each other in earshot and the bar looks like a breakfast buffet. There are not that many guests. Have the Iranian rumours seen them off? We saw no evidence. Overall its not 5star lux as you get in Gstaad - but more likeable for it. Some interesting large scale modern art - definately not Tyrolean castle inside. iIwould go back Guestrelation Schlosshotel, Gästeservice/Empfang at Schlosshotel Kitzbuhel, responded to this review Dear mark54havenhand, Thank you for your feedback. Excellent Facilities, Uneven Service During Peak Season

    rating08 Jan 2026

The sushi bar at Schlosshotel Kitzbühel is a standout feature and, in theory, a wonderful addition to the property’s dining options. The quality and presentation were excellent and felt like a thoughtful, modern contrast to the traditional alpine offerings. Unfortunately, due to how busy the hotel was, service was overwhelmed, and we waited nearly an hour for a very small order. While the food itself was excellent, the extended wait significantly detracted from the overall experience. The property is lovely and the entertainment at night is a bonus. One of the highlights of our stay at Schlosshotel Kitzbühel was the convenience of the on-site ski rental service. Having everything handled directly at the hotel made getting on and off the mountain effortless, particularly during a busy ski period, and removed a great deal of logistical stress. The spa was another standout. It provided a calm, restorative retreat after full days on the slopes, with beautifully maintained facilities and a relaxing atmosphere that felt in line with the hotel’s luxury positioning. Both the ski rental experience and the spa contributed positively to our stay and reflected the level of comfort and ease we had hoped for. However, our overall experience at the property was impacted by some notable operational issues. Upon arrival, the hotel was unable to locate our reservation due to a system change, despite our deposit and completed pre-check-in. While the staff ultimately worked to accommodate us during an extremely busy holiday period, the situation created unnecessary stress at the start of what was meant to be a family vacation. One additional disappointment was the dinner service. While we expected (and are accustomed to) buffet-style offerings for salads and starters at alpine hotels, we were surprised to find that entrees were also served buffet-style. This was not what we anticipated from a property of this caliber and took away from the dining experience, particularly given the otherwise refined setting. We opted to eat out locally a few nights and found some amazing places - like The Mocking! While we appreciated the setting and amenities, we will look to other accommodations on future visits to the beautiful town of Kitzbühel. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed highlights such as our sushi bar, spa, and the convenience of our on-site ski rental, and that these contributed positively to your stay.We sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered, including the reservation mix-up on arrival, the long wait at the sushi bar, and the buffet-style dinner service, which fell short of your expectations. unpleasant surprise

    rating26 Dec 2025

the experience is not good first check in was supposed to be at 3:00 or 4:15 and we still hadn't been to our rooms... and when finally be there incidentally looked out to nowhere... they also supposed to be double bed etc. but…they have two singles beds together... without any flexibility... and while we pay 1200 per day for 7 days they asked us for another 500 to see something better than a wall... finally in this category of room we didn’t have the opportunity to make a hot tea or a coffee and i do not believe that we are a family of 4 and we are already pay 16.800 eur for a week ….. I wouldn't recommend it at all Guestrelation Schlosshotel, Gästeservice/Empfang at Schlosshotel Kitzbuhel, responded to this review Dear agapiv2017,Thank you for your feedback.
