    Central, warm and comfortable

    rating30 Apr 2026

This is an excellent hotel in the heart of Innsbruck. The overall atmosphere of the hotel well explains the adjective ‘gemütlich’: relaxing, warm, and comfortable. I was given a standard room on the top floor, from which I enjoyed a splendid view on the mountains and on the ‘Golden Roof’. The room was smallish yet excellently organized, and I didn’t feel the need for more space. The Wifi worked perfectly. The hotel’s restaurant was excellen, serving traditional Austrian food. I recommend it highly.

    Not a luxury stay

Very disappointing- location is excellent but room was pretty average. Communal space very limited in the hotel, no facilities or outdoor space. Left to lug luggage up to the room, not like a 5* hotel experience but like a best western experience! Only saving grace is the price. Not a luxury stay

It was disappointing & doesnt live up to its interesting history

The room was fine, nothing special, the bed was confortable. It was huge too big.The corridor was more interesting than the bedroom with photos, information written in an artistic way about historic people who had visited the hotel. There was no little extra on the desk as a gesture of welcome. The male attendant at the desk was helpful when we told him we wanted the room better heated overnight. The breakfast at 24 euro per person was far too expensive & just the same as in other hotels apart from the price. There was no Roiboos tea. We didnt like the evening meal: the pork schnitzel was tender but without taste, it was lacking seasoning, the vegetable balls didnt have taste & were too starchy.

An excellent, historic, centrally located hotel.

Having just spent a very enjoyable week at the Goldener Adler, I can safely recommend it as an excellent base when you visit Innsbruck. Its location is hard to beat, if you value being in the heart of historic Innsbruck. The Golden Roof is just a few steps away, as is the Hofburg, Dom, the Tirol Folkmuseum and Domkirche to mention just a few. There are plenty of options for eating and drinking nearby, with the hotel having one of the best restaurants I ate in all week. It’s not an overly fussy “foodie” restaurant either but a friendly, professionally run establishment. Speaking of professionalism, I cannot praise the staff too highly. Nothing was too much trouble and the hints and tips proved to be very helpful. Especially the Welcome Card which gave you free public transport and a 20% discount on the cable car route to the Top of Innsbruck (well worth the effort). Breakfast (taken in the restaurant) provided everything you could wish for. A sumptuous buffet with plenty of choice and freshly cooked hot breakfast dishes to order, should you so desire. Our room (102) was spacious and well equipped but my wife didn’t like the lack of drawers. There was plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space and to be honest, it didn’t create any problems. The bed was very comfortable and despite the room being on a corner, overlooking the main (pedestrianised) street, we were not bothered by noise in the evening. However, if you are a light sleeper, then the arrival of delivery vehicles early in the morning (approximately 0600) could wake you. As the street the hotel sits on is pedestrianised during the day, early mornings are the only time business can get their deliveries. I don’t want to make too big a deal of this as it only woke us a couple of mornings out of the seven. The only criticism I have of our room, concerned the heating (and in the summer, the cooling). There is a domestic air conditioning unit that controls room temperature. The wall mounted control for this unit is a little too complex for the average tourist. It did deliver warm(ish) air but had a habit of turning itself off when we didn’t want it to.Despite this, we enjoyed our stay immensely. We intend to return to Innsbruck during the summer months and the Goldener Adler will be the place where we will be staying.
