Not „Leading Hotel of the World“ anymore but still great location

    rating18 May 2026

Over the past decade I’ve been a regular guest at the hotel and it always was my favorite choice in the city because of style, location and value for money. After they shifted from LHW to Eurostars, I did not stay there until I used one day stop over thousands week on a business trip to check in again.I was positively surprised that there was no noticeable change. The rooms of course remained the same and front desk staff was friendly and attentive.Only the breakfast felt a bit downgraded. I was not overly impressed by the service and the coffee was disappointing, something you wouldn’t expect in Vienna. On top of this, one of the juices at the buffet was completely spoiled. Maybe they just had a bad day but it’s something I did not experience during dozens of stays at the hotel before. However, independent of the breakfast experience it is still a great hotel at an fantastic location, with unique old Viennese flair at very good prices compared to other five stars in the inner city..

    So so

Pros: location, 2 restaurants, good breakfast, breakfast until 11:30. Cons: at 11:20, the breakfast staff rolled up a cart without warning and started clearing the buffet. They didn't remove the plates from your table and carelessly dropped an omelette on it while taking food from the buffet at 11:20. This continued for two days. They were shouting loudly as they were clearing the table and it was passive aggression to make us leave without finishing our meal. At exactly 11:35 our table and another table were completely cleared, we were not allowed to take the fruit and the staff was extremely rude. P.S. The guy at the reception sent us to an Italian restaurant which was very bad. Do not send tourists there.

    Not so great

    rating13 Feb 2026

Second visit, this one not as good as last. Lots of changes. Breakfast good but reception and housekeeping a bit hit and miss and the stunning 1870 restaurant now used for half board rather than top luxury. Seems to have slipped from 5* to 4 at best, just since we visited last year. The feeling of luxury has gone, more like “cram ‘em in” shame but plenty of other great hotels in area.

    still imperial

Perfect location from a walkable distance to underground and trams AND also to the opera and the pedestrian zones on the way to Stephansplatz. We had already stayed here a couple years ago albeit in a different floor/rooms, though I don't know if there were changes after the Eurostars takeover. Our room felt a bit narrow now and there was a missing plug to switch on the lamps by the bed, though we did not need them so we didn't complain about them. The bathroom was also smaller but again, I suppose that's on it being a different room/floor. Clean to the core and with perhaps the most wonderful breakfast (BENEDICT EGGS ALL THE WAY) out of all the hotels we've stayed at in Europe. The staff at the front desk seemed interns or newbies and despite a hiccup or two, lovely at every encounter. Loved seeing familiar faces at the breakfast room though. The biedermeier/belle epoque/victorian environment gives the hotel its magical vibes that made me fall in love with it back in 2024 and fortunately are and hope will stay there forever.

    Awful reception staff

    rating16 Jan 2026

The hotel is good, low standard than years ago, but the reception staff is beyond anyone can imagine. Only unprofessional young employees that are not able to manage the reservation and cannot treat old costumers like that should have!
