“Rude Staff, Extra Charges, and No Basic Service”

    rating08 May 2026

We had booked 2 double rooms for 3 nights at ibis budget Wien Sankt Marx through Booking.com.During the booking process, we accidentally selected one guest per room. However, the amount charged was still the double room rate shown on booking.com.We immediately contacted the hotel by email and asked them to correct the reservation from single occupancy to double occupancy in both rooms. Their response was that they could not modify the reservation and that we would have to pay an additional €15 per day for each extra guest. We also tried contacting booking.com, but they were unable to assist us and kept referring us back to the hotel. After countless messages exchanged between booking.com and ibis, with each side directing us to the other, I finally called the hotel reservations department directly.I spoke with the reservations manager, Ms “Rude Staff, Extra Charges, and No Basic Service”Olag, whose attitude and behavior were completely unacceptable and extremely rude. Our trip had not even started yet, and already the experience was terrible. When we finally arrived at the hotel, unfortunately our concerns proved to be justified. We paid the additional charge for the second guest in each room, even though the official hotel website offered double rooms at a much lower rate. The hotel building itself was basic and in a good location, but the rooms felt more like hospital rooms. There were only two bath towels and one bath mat provided — not even face towels. We stayed for 3 nights. On one of the nights, there was a power outage on our floor for several hours, leaving our rooms without electricity or lights. The receptionist promised that we would be moved to rooms on another floor. However, when we later asked for the new rooms, he claimed that there were no rooms available after all. When we asked what we were supposed to do, he rudely told us to “sleep outside.” Such behavior is completely unacceptable for hotel staff. In general, unfortunately, the staff displayed a similar attitude throughout our stay.To make matters worse, during our entire 3-night stay, nobody cleaned the rooms. They did not even empty the trash bins.I am truly disappointed that a hotel like this operates in Vienna, and I would definitely not recommend it to anyone.

SCAMERS! THEY CANCEL BOOKINGS AND SAY YOU ARE NOT COMING JUST TO TAKE THE MOONEY

    rating01 Dec 2025

I booked a room on booking for this accommodation. It was disaster. They ask to take money in advance. polotoca was if we didn't show up or cancel to take our money for one night. they gave cancellation and took all the money. Big jerks. we were charged at the weekend price for the Christmas fair. over 560euro 2 nights. be very careful. Am dorit check out dupa 5 minute. Fiind trecut de 00 noaptea numai aveam unde sa cautam. Vebind deja de la aeroport. Platind.

Dont expect anything its only for budget

    rating16 Nov 2025

Its a budget hotel so everything was as per the value you pay for. however i was surprised by the rude behavior of the staff in front desk. Rest room was simple without any fancy stuff. Hotel is very close to the bus station in a walkable distance and the airport is also not very far.

    Highly don`t recommend this hotel.

    rating02 Nov 2025

I strongly discourage staying at this hotel due to its non-transparent “internal policy,” which is not available in any public sources, as well as because of discriminatory and extremely disrespectful treatment towards mothers and women.I was refused accommodation because my child and I have different last names. The manager demanded that I present a document proving that I am the child’s mother. I did have such a document, issued in Ukrainian; however, the staff insisted that it must be in English or German. I didn`t have a translated version with me, as in 19 years of traveling with my children, I have never encountered such a requirement in any hotel worldwide — including in Vienna and other EU countries. The staff stated that this was not Austrian law, but rather the hotel’s “internal policy.”.No such information is available on the hotel’s website, nor was it mentioned in the booking confirmation I received for myself and my son.Had I been informed in advance about the existence of such special rules — which differ from those of other hotels in Vienna — I would have been able to prepare the necessary document or choose another hotel. Unfortunately, I had no opportunity to know about this requirement.

Where customer service goes to die

    rating10 Mar 2025

This was my second stay at this hotel, and I returned with confidence—only to bitterly regret it. I had booked two rooms and a parking space for my car, expecting a comfortable stay. Instead, what I got was one of the worst hospitality experiences of my life. The moment I stepped into the room, I was overwhelmed by an unbearable stench of cigarette smoke. At first, I assumed it was just a bad odor coming from the heating system, so I turned off the fan, opened the window, and tried to settle in. However, after just a short time, I realized that the smell was so overpowering that even my coat, hanging on the rack, had begun to absorb it. It was suffocating.Realizing that staying in this room was simply not an option, I went to the reception and politely requested a room change. What happened next was beyond shocking. The receptionist, with an attitude of absolute indifference and not even a hint of empathy, coldly told me that they could refund the price of the room—but only if I left. No apology, no attempt to resolve the issue, just a blatant dismissal.I was stunned. I reminded them that I had booked two rooms, that my car was parked at their hotel, and that simply refunding one room was not a solution. What was I supposed to do? Wander the streets of Vienna at night looking for another hotel at the last minute? I had booked well in advance, and now I was being told, with zero concern, that I was on my own. Despite my reasonable arguments, the receptionist just kept repeating the same scripted response, like a broken record, refusing to take any responsibility. Not once did they say, "We’re sorry for the inconvenience." Not once.Frustrated, I reached out to Booking.com customer service, who were incredibly professional and understanding. They tried to contact the hotel, but—surprise, surprise—the hotel ignored their calls. I also sent a message through the Booking.com app, only to receive a dismissive, borderline insulting response. They insisted that the reception had done "everything possible," but the truth is, they had done absolutely nothing. What makes this situation even more infuriating is that IBIS has multiple hotels in Vienna. If a hotel is overbooked or unable to provide the service a guest has paid for, the professional and ethical solution is to relocate them to another IBIS property at the hotel's expense. But instead, they left me to deal with the problem myself, completely disregarding their duty to provide basic customer service.I have traveled to many places, stayed in countless hotels, but never—never—have I experienced such a disgraceful level of service. I genuinely believe that an AI-powered self-check-in system would have been more compassionate and professional than the staff at this hotel. The people working here have no business being in the hospitality industry. Their lack of basic human decency is appalling.I strongly urge everyone to avoid this hotel at all costs. If you encounter even the slightest issue, do not expect any help, sympathy, or professionalism. All you will get is arrogance, hostility, and indifference. And the worst part? You’ll be paying for the privilege of being treated like you don’t matter.
