Location

The hotel is 10 minutes north of buzzing Bridgetown, by a lovely west coast beach in St. James and 30 minutes from the airport.

Facility

The hotel has a lift and features 70 rooms. The friendly staff at the reception desk are happy to answer any questions. Amenities include a cloakroom, baggage storage service, safe and currency exchange service. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. There are a number of shops, including a souvenir shop. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. Additional amenities include a newspaper stand, a TV room and a library. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park. Further services and facilities include a 24-hour security service, a babysitting service, a childcare service, a car hire service, medical assistance, room service, a laundry service, a hairdresser and a coin-operated laundry. Rooms

Air conditioning and a fan ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Most units include a balcony with sea views, where guests can relax and linger a while.     Don’t expect to sleep in clean bedsheets throughout your stay!

    Booked my stay with Waves as a 5 night birthday treat to my partner who had never been to Barbados. Was super excited, booked suite room too. All was well with food and guest service apart from one VERY important thing- housekeeping!!!After our first night i woke up realising that I’ve started my periods as there was some blood stains on the sheets. I’ve found this lovely card to hotel had in our room which states that the resort only changes sheets every 3 days but if a guests would like their sheets changed upon request I should just leave that card on the bed and housekeeping will take care of that. So I did exactly that! ( unfortunately there was a little “gift” left by a bird on our bed the same morning as we totally forgot to close balcony door while we were having our breakfast.After our daily activities returning back to the room everything seemed be ok UNTIL our 2nd morning where I noticed that there’s still some blood stains on the inner sheet? Thought to myself- that’s odd, maybe my partner had scratched himself or maybe me? Didn’t think too much of it went in about our day. Now, woke up on the 3rd morning to see a pillow covered in blood stains from my partner’s cut on his hand. Didn’t think much of it, just left a “change my bedding “ card on the bed again (feeling absolutely mortified and guilty that something like this had happened). I left the card on the bed even tho it was a day 3 where hotel should be changing bedsheets anyway as per their policy. We went on our day and when returned back to room after lunch to take a rest before my partner’s birthday dinner booked later that evening all of a sudden I see a stain from the bird poo and it is in EXACTLY the same spot as it was the 1st morning! VERY strange! I was thinking “how come I have ended up with the same bedsheets even after they’ve been washed and changed? So this prompted me to inspect the bedding. To my absolute HORROR I’ve discovered that our bed linens have NEVER been changed regardless our requests as well as hotel hygiene policies and to make matters even worse the housekeeper had purposely tried to hide the blood covered pillows in a way that we’d not notice it. (The blood stained covered pillows were puffed up and positioned behind the 1st pillow and facing blood towards the bed frame. I immediately went to speak to the hotel manager who was luckily on shift. He seemed great, fast responding and called housekeeping manager to come and see us immediately. They apologised and agreed that this is absolutely unacceptable. They were asking to get the bedding situation rectified immediately to which I refused and asked them to do it whenever we were ere out for dinner that evening to celebrate my partner’s birthday that day/evening. I was assured by the hotel manager that when we’ll be back there will be communication left by him as to what can be done by this unfortunate situation. Upon our return to the hotel after the dinner I checked in with reception staff to see if a message had been left for me to which she responded saying that manager will speak to us in the morning when he starts his shift at 9am. Absolutely shocking as I asked how would he do that as I made him aware that we will not be staying our final night there as had booked flights the very next morning that leave BGI at 6am. She called me to take a seat and wait as she’ll message him and see what the manager say. She was ever so polite and efficient! 10 minutes later she came back to me with a message to pass by the manager to say that the agreement has been made by the management that I’ll be getting a refund for our last night as well as half of the night 4 as their way of an apology and customer satisfaction recovery and will be getting an official email sent to me with the confirmation of that as soon ad the manager will be in the very next morning. Sounds great doesn’t it?! HA!! But you know how the saying goes- if it sounds too good to be true it must be too good to be true. It’s been alsmost a week since we stayed at the resort and I still up to this date haven’t received an official email from the resort management even just to say “sorry” for the whole thing let alone following up the verbal promise of compensation. I’ve reached out to the resort twice via Expedia app where it says “contact the hotel” and Waves have complete ignored my communication. To make matters worse they’ve asked me to *rate my experience with them. So before I would do such a thing I resent the same email to them with hope that they’ll respond and I wouldn’t have to write all about my experience. To make matters even worse I checked with my back and Waves hadn’t even returned my deposit that I paid in my arrival (the usual security deposit that hotels take when you arrive) I had no choice but to get Expedia involved and can honestly say that they’ve been absolutely AMAZING in handling this matter and I have my promised refund as well as my security deposit back within a matter of 72 hours. Thank you Expedia! Have I received any communication from the Waved resort? Still upon to today- absolute silence . Absolutely appalling customer care which is a shame as the waiting staff and all other staff were absolutely fantastic.

    Only stayed for a day after a cruise, but found this to be a very nice property with a great position on the beach and a really nice adult only pool across the road. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The sea when were were there was very calm and looked great for swimming, this is certainly not the case in some other hotels like the Hilton Resort that we stayed at before the cruise, where it was too rough to go in. We would definitely consider staying here for a few days before our next cruise.

    We enjoyed our stay at the Waves - our beachfront room was spacious and had a nice balcony to enjoy. Facilities were good - we particularly liked the adult pool (we didn’t find a problem with crossing the road although you do need to be careful of traffic and we were aware before booking it was a split site so not an issue) which was large and had sufficient sun loungers. We didn’t use the family pool as it wasn’t particularly inviting. We swum from the small beach.Food was good at both restaurants- nice staff serving and helpful. Excellent cocktails and evening entertainment. We used the water taxi to visit other sister hotels which was efficient but doesn’t operate after 4.30. Our issues would be that it is not as simple to eat at the other restaurants as publicised - there has to be a request and then you find out on the morning you want to visit if you are successful. We saw quite a few people being rebuffed which isn’t ideal and it felt like it was not to be encouraged! We hired a car and could park at the hotel. Most staff were super friendly.

    Managing Expectations

    ….is what any travel company or hotel are in business to do. When expectations are formed from marketing information such as the hotel’s website, it is extremely disappointing when those expectations are not fully met. Sadly, in our experience, this is what happens at Waves Hotel and Spa. There’s not a lot wrong with it….it just doesn’t always do what it says on the tin.Staff, in the main, are helpful and friendly. Food is ‘ok’ with a reasonable choice on the menu although the menu can be a tad repetitive. Rooms are well appointed and kept clean by the dedicated staff. However, a hotel that purports to be 4 or 5 star should be better in so many ways. We found an element of inconsistency in the service provided by some of the staff at the hotel each day. Is this bad personnel management or just the Bajan norm?The beach situation has been covered at length by other correspondents so I’m not going to labour that issue. Beds are crammed together in the small area of beach still useable and the pre-breakfast rush sees most of those bagged for the day. Nobody in the hotel seems to deter this so it goes on. Check out the photo of the beach and brown cushioned sunbeds that is on the Waves website (and a big factor that moved us to choose the hotel). It doesn’t look like that now! Marriott/Waves should not post photos that do not reflect the current situation at the hotel. The website should be updated without delay. In our opinion the hotel is overpriced for the overall offering you receive. You have expectations from the photos and blurb on their website. Sadly, for us it did not live up to those expectations. Clearly, any holiday is not ‘one size fits all’ and there will be customers who love everything Waves offer. We returned home disappointed with our time at Waves. A very expensive holiday that did not fully deliver.     Fabulous hotel!!

    My husband and I have just returned from a week here, which was a very last minute booking as our holiday to a different destination was cancelled. If we'd done all our usual research and had a much wider choice of hotels to choose from, we probably wouldn't have picked this one due to its small beach and road going through the resort, but oh my goodness.....what an absolute loss that would've been!! We absolutely love this resort!! The beach may be small, with a bit of a step down as you go into the water, but it's just beautiful, and the amount of free water sports on offer all day, every day, is fantastic, as is the water taxi that runs to the other resorts. We used this to have lunch at Treasure Beach and it was great. Our room was on the other side of the road, but there's really no problems with crossing, as long as you wait for both ways to stop before you step out. The adult only pool over that side is lovely and we could always get 2 sunbeds whenever we wanted, tho we tend to be beach people. Also no problem getting sunbeds on the beach before around 10am, tho our last day there was extremely busy, but the beach guys were doing everything they could to squeeze more beds in where they could.All the staff we came across were wonderful and couldn't do enough to help you. Our only small negative is that the food choices in both restaurants can be a bit limited and very much the same from the day before and the day before that.......However, that isn't going to stop us coming back. This is an absolute gem of a hotel!
