Decent hotel in a safe area

    rating17 Jan 2026

Stayed here for 3 nights, over the New Year holiday. It's located in the heart of Saint-Gilles village in Brussels. It's within walking distance to public transportation and a Carrefour Express. The room did have a small mini fridge which was great for leftovers. Like many places in Europe, the room had 2 twin beds pushed together. We had to push them back together a couple times as the mattresses wandered a bit. They didn't have comforters but luckily they had a spare blanket in the closet. I definitely needed it.The tub was deep but curved so I didn't feel steady getting in and out of the bath. I definitely felt like I would slip. There is a heated towel rack that really never got warm while set to the highest setting. They also have a traditional bidet, which is grossly inferior to modern bidet toilet seats. The room had windows that opened, which was nice for getting fresh air. The TV had a couple English language channels which was nice. The elevators were the smallest I'd ever been in. There was enough space for me + 2 large check in suitcases that my husband pushed into the elevator. He had to ride in a separate elevator. I cannot imagine if a single parent was travelling with small children how they'd get their luggage in and out of the elevator without staff assistance. I can't even imagine someone in a motorized wheelchair being able to fit into the elevator. There was spa water in the lobby on one of the days and then it disappeared. I've never been to a hotel where they just stop putting our water in the lobby for guests. There is a restaurant attached and was quite busy every day that we were there. This hotel primarily caters to Spaniards, but the front desk does speak English. Overall, I liked that the hotel felt clean and was in what felt like a safe area, but the slippery tub, chilly twin beds and elevator situation was annoying enough to not be 4 stars.Visited: December 2025 & January 2026 Sandrine Lagnien, General Manager at Hotel Catalonia Brussels, responded to this review Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your stay over the New Year period. We are pleased to read that you appreciated the cleanliness of the hotel, the safe and pleasant location in Saint-Gilles, the proximity to public transportation and local shops, as well as the in-room amenities such as the mini fridge, English TV channels, and the option to open the windows for fresh air. We also value your comment about the restaurant and are glad you found it lively during your stay.At the same time, we sincerely regret the inconveniences you experienced in your room. We understand how the twin beds moving apart, the spare blanket situation, and the temperature of the heated towel rack may have affected your comfort. Your remarks regarding the bathtub’s safety and the bidet have also been noted and will be reviewed by our team, as safety and comfort remain priorities for us.We appreciate your feedback regarding the elevators. While typical of many historic buildings in Brussels, we understand that the limited size can be inconvenient for guests with luggage or specific mobility needs. Your comment is valuable and will be taken into consideration as we evaluate future improvements to our facilities. We also take note of your feedback about the lobby water service and will ensure better consistency going forward. We are glad that you felt safe and comfortable overall, but we regret that certain aspects did not fully reflect the 4-star experience we aim to deliver. Please rest assured that all your comments have been shared with the relevant departments so we can continue improving the guest experience.Thank you again for your constructive and thoughtful feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back on a future visit to Brussels and offer you an even more enjoyable stay.Kind regards,Hotel Management

Excellent, central location with good transport links.

    rating10 Jan 2026

Great hotel for exploring Brussels!. Good transport links to the hotel and great base for exploring the city. Tram and bus stops 3 minute walk away and easy to navigate, also great prices! The hotel was clean, comfortable and airy. There was a good selection of hot and cold food for breakfast and the rooms were well equipped, with towels, toiletries and a mini bar if required. Also tea/coffee making facilities and good WiFi. Staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel itself was very quiet. Will definitely go back if visiting Brussels again. Lovely family stay for Christmas Markets – Great Staff

    rating11 Dec 2025

We stayed 3 nights for the Brussels Christmas markets. The hotel is clean, spacious, and well-located (easy 10-minute walk to the metro). The staff were the highlight of our trip. A special thanks to Veronica-Fernandez at reception for getting our rooms together, and Martha in the restaurant who was incredibly friendly and helpful.Breakfast was delicious (great made-to-order omelettes), though a bit pricey (€20). Great value café (€5 coffee/pastry). Clean, spacious rooms. There were a few downsides though, the room was too hot. There were also maintenance issues (fridge and kettle) were not fixed during our stay.Overall, a 4/5 experience. The maintenance issues were annoying, but the amazing staff made the stay enjoyable.
