    Somewhat tired boarding house

    rating03 Aug 2025

The Chic Cocoon looks great in the pictures. It is located on a quiet street just over ten minutes walk from the Louisa metro and about fifteen minutes from the centre of great bars in Saint Gilles, and about 25 minutes walk into central Brussels. The room I stayed in (3) was large. However, the place has some tatty features and needs quite a lot of attention. Some areas of the room were dirty (around the dust covered fire extinguisher for example) and, although the communal bathrooms are cleaned daily, they include ugly taped over features on cisterns (this is the same in the kitchen which seemed to have no cutlery). My pillows were stained and one pillowcase ripped, and the mattress had a plastic feel under the sheet. Not very good.I’d suggest staying in an Ibis or other alternative. If you do stay here, actually entering the property was a palaver as there is no staff/reception - look out for a message on Booking.com; I didn’t seem to receive this and had to request info once a helpful resident (who’s had the same issues) let me in after repeated doorbell ringing.

check the creepy cupboards for souveniers and ghouls

    rating28 Nov 2023

hmm where do i start. when you book you get a one in six chance that instead of a nice spacious room you are shoved into the haunted attic (not shown in pictures) the ceilings sloping low on both sides. the room lined with creepy haunted cupboards. you are greeted with instant steep curved stairs from opening the door. if you wanted to have a hands free shower you are mistaken, it is recommended to bring a personal shower assistant to hold the shower head for you. then after finding the expensive prices in brussels you might feel like a nice microwave meal, you are mistaken. we got to the kitchens and found a lack of utensils and the microwave had a uk plug which obviously didn’t work (who put it there and why)

good for people who don´t want to sleep

endowment fancy and ok, however all the room are not acoustic isolated, you hear every movement on the staircase, every key turning in the look, and every door opening. Especially delighting if people come around 4 am and then chatting on the balcony. Or if guests´who forgot the code for door opening´, starts terror ringing around 1 am.

    Avoid like the plague!

    rating14 Nov 2018

Whilst the rooms look nice they are not usable for hotel rooms. The property is old so you can hear EVERY sound in the house. Neighbours play music really loud at night. Every bathroom is SHARED with other guests - not mentioned on the ad! The floor is ultra slippy floorboards so a massive H&S risk. The room doesn't even have a kettle or wash basin. The bathroom has a frosted glass door so people can basically see you in the shower or on the toilet. The bathroom doesn't have a proper lock, just a chain which means someone can open the door ajar and peer in. Avoid this place!!

    There was no private bathroom

    rating10 Oct 2018

There was no bathroom in the room. I did not expect it. The only batroom was at the ground floor and I was told it was private (belonging to the room next to it). I didn't see any other bathroom (only toilet). I came late at night and there was no information where the shared bathroom is. If you have rooms with no private it should be explicitly said in the property description. If I knew I would not have taken it.
