I lost my booking and my money

    rating04 Jan 2026

I was on a business trip to Brussels and needed to stay in this particular area of the town, so I booked online a room at hotel Derby Merode because it was the only place available in the area, actually it was quite expensive if you consider the poor quality of the place (at least the parts of it that I got to see). When I reached the place late evening the day before my meeting, the receptionist (by the name Mag Nlandu) told me that my room was out of service due to a technical issue and it was the last one available, so there was no place for me at the hotel. The only alternative that he offered me was a room at an associated hotel in a different area of the town that did not suit my needs. I explained him that the proposed solution was not adequate due to the location, so I declined the offer and requested a refund (the booking was prepaid). He replied that, since the booking had been done through a digital travel platform (eDreams), I had to address the request to them. I asked him to provide me a written statement about the issue and he said he would send it to my email, but he never did. Being so late hours, I struggled to find another place to stay at, but finally succeeded. The following day right after my work schedule I registered a refund request at eDreams website and, after several days and several phone calls with customer care, my request was rejected because, according to eDreams, the hotel alleged they had offered me several (false!!) alternative places and I had declined "them all". I explained that I had been offered a single alternative and that, regardless of the number, I was not obliged to accept a room at a different location which was not suitable for the purpose of my trip. But it was useless, I lost 200 plus euros. Not to mention the time and effort spent in finding another place to stay, filing the claim and repeatedly speaking o the phone with eDreams customer care with no result. For obvious reasons, I will never ever again book at this place.

An absolute disappointment. The web page is misleading

    rating26 Dec 2025

An absolute disgrace to be categorised as a hotel. The room was a dingy attick. The shower dripped a few drops water and the lift was of minimum space to accommodate 2 persons. If this is European standard of categorizing a hotel its laughable. In Africa or Asia this will be minus one star standard.Ydt the price was exorbitant.

Complete dump - no room heat or Wi-Fi

    rating25 Oct 2023

In short, a dump for €170 per night (regardless of the rate they advertise). Long version:I checked into a 5th floor room at just after 2pm in mid-October. The only window, which opened to the roof, was open and it was about 10C outside and maybe 15C in the room - too cold to be comfortable. I noticed the smell of sewage. I’m tall, so I looked out the open roof window and could see a sewer roof vent about one meter from the open window. I immediately closed the window and turned on the radiator to “4” (full on) to warm the room up. 15 minutes after, I could smell mold or mildew in the room, possibly from the carpet - hence the open window. I attempted to work on my laptop but the Wi-Fi dropped out every 10-15 minutes. I tried 4 different Wi-Fi’s in the hotel and had the same problems. After 30 minutes, I checked the radiator - stone cold. I went back to the front desk and described the Wi-Fi problem. Response - “nothing I can do but I called the IT guy.” Fair enough. I asked about there being no heat in the room. Response “ give it an hour or two.” I left to explore a bit and had dinner. I returned at 8pm. Different guy at the front desk. Still no Wi-Fi with a stable connection. Still no room heat, and it was getting colder outside and in the room. I went back to the front desk. Responses were “I’ll get the IT guy to fix the Wi-Fi” and “give the radiator an hour or two to warm up”. I replied that I had given the radiator over 4 hours to warm up and the supply lines to the radiator were cold. I asked to be moved to a room with heat and and he said “nothing I can do”. I asked for them to check the furnace and they had nobody who could do that. Perhaps heat was out for the entire hotel and they were still booking and charging rooms on a cold October day. Who knows? I checked out (or attempted to) at 10 pm same day and requested a full refund. They had charged me a full three nights stay immediately upon check-in for a dingy, smelly hotel room without heat in late Autumn. In the end, they refused to refund any of the stay despite not being able to provide a heated room in mid-October in Brussels. What a dump. Save your money. There is a decent hotel 3 blocks away with both Wi-Fi and working room heat.

    No go

    rating14 Dec 2019

We went there on our annual trip to Brussels with highschool friends. This hotel is pityfully not to be recommended. It is cheap though. The bathroom is tiny, the shower really too small. Several things in the room were broken or damaged.

    Rundown hotel

    rating26 Nov 2019

3*hotel paying almost the same as a 4*!! In dire need of a refurbishment. Filthy shower and if you try to open the water in the shower, water does not pass but will remain in the shower tray. Booked a double room but got twin beds. Mattress very old and with a curve in the centre... Evidence of how many people slept on it during many many years but mattress was never changed. Disgusting.Avoid this hotel.
