From the friendly, stylish woman who checked us in to the rest of the staff, we had a great 6 night stay at Aparthotel Castelnou. We appreciated the quiet 1BR room, which looked exactly like the website. The location, a 11 minute walk to Gent Dampoort station and a 15 minute walk to the medieval centre was peaceful. While cleaning was daily and fresh towels were replaced 2 daily, I would have been just as happy with less often cleaning. The clean wood floors and open shelves made the stay easy. We appreciated the late check out, til 12, as we could sleep in and choose a later train, to coincide with a more favorable time for our next destination.My only quibble would be that the sloped bathtub makes it tricky to get close enough to the shower head safely. I worked out a work around, but something to keep in mind for less mobile clients. I also appreciated that the buffet opened at 630am, as our jet lagged selves could eat early.

It was our first time in Belgium, and Aparthotel Castelnou made it a blissful experience. The man at the reception who checked us in, whose name I unfortunately can't recall, gave us the most pleasant check-in experience we've had so far. He asked us where we came from, what our planned destinations were, and then gave us tips on how to reach them in the most efficient and picturesque ways, all in a genuinely friendly, funny, and kind way without it feeling forced.The apartment was very spacious with a separate bedroom (with a safe), bathroom and a combined living room with a kitchenette. There was plenty of storage - 1 large closet with hangers and shelves in the bedroom and 1 smaller, but still rather big closet next to the entry door. It was pristine with clean bedsheets and towels. There was an AC/thermostat, windows with insect screens, which provided plenty of daylight, but offered thick, almost blackout curtains. The TV had channels in Dutch, French, German, and English from all around Western Europe.The breakfasts were delightful, offering gluten free alternatives. They didn't change much, but that's not a bad thing, as the pastries, jams and cheeses were all delicious. It's situated in a really nice, elegant dining area with very friendly staff.The hotel is on a street with so many public transport connections that you can seemingly get anywhere in Ghent within 20 minutes, but that seems to be the case for the whole city. It's within walking distance (15 minutes give or take) from the historical center and the Gent-Dampoort train station, with hourly connections to Bruges (5€/person, 20-30 minute ride) and Antwerp.Thank you, Aparthotel Castelnou, for making our weekend trip so nice! It felt more like visiting a friend than staying at a hotel. I'm positive we will meet again :)

Incredible place to stay in Ghent

We had a great stay here with our one year old and three year old! We appreciated the cot and rollaway bed set up upon our arrival, and the walk to city center was about 15 min so not too bad. Breakfast was good as well. Special thank you to Sandra and Famke who went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful!

Nice hotel in a quiet area just outside the center of the city The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff was really friendly and keen to assist. Fine breakfast and lovely garden to enjoy it.
