OFFERS NO MRE THAN GREAT LOCATION

    rating21 May 2026

Location, location, location! On the quietest side of town, looking out to the nicest side of town across the canal. This is the ain reason to stay here. This all this place is about. And this is, expecting you can book yourself into the water views rooms, all in the old building. For the price we were paying, I was expecting someone to park my car for me. Not happening. Or someone to carry my bags. Not happening either. The check-in counters seem overwhelmed at any given time, which is annoying when you have to come down to ask about this or that, or complain about this and that. Especially after speaking on the phone to someone who clearly does not care; and nothing has happened after a while.Gripes? Several. The 3 rooms (1 Prestige canal + 2 Canal) we had were overall good; recently redone, good bathrooms, roomey although missing sitting options, lovely views with a feeling of being in the heart of town. And that’s about it. Heating did not seem to be properly working, and we seemed to be facing the options of stifling heat or freezing cold. We had a very hard time to interest someone in fixing the thing to an acceptable middle ground, after numerous calls and visits to the front desk. Was Ok when it was time to leave, and we had to compromise on stifling heat with opened windows. Like no one is interested.Breakfast was decent, not good. That was, once we interested someone to fix a table for six, and after we managed to get some food from the buffet looking like a war zone, ordered some hot food and get it delivered. The loveliest part was being told, upon delivery of my order of fried eggs and bacon, I had to go the buffet and help myself to the bacon. Guess what? Empty dish sitting in the buffet? Are those guys for real?? The place is too small for breakfast, vastly understaffed by overwhelmed waiters, some of which are not remotely interested in providing service. We had high expectations on the Midtown Grill, the in-house restaurant. Started off well, as they met my request of a nice table by the window. Starters came in OK. Good, not great. Mains were a whole different story. Steaks were non-descript at best. Ribs were nonedible, and were sent back (and not charged for, to be fair). Desserts anyone? Got the menu, and could only place our order after 20 minutes, only because I walked into the kitchen to make myself very clear how unhappy I was.I voiced everything upon check out. They looked sorry, and said they would do the follow. Which started after an hour with a call in the car, saying that my credit card could not be processed, so could I come back. They sent a link instead.Any compensation? Of course: points on my Bonvoy loyalty card. In case I want to return, perhaps? Ghent Marriott Hotel, General Manager at Ghent Marriott Hotel, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback regarding your stay with us back in December. While we are pleased to read that you enjoyed our unique location, canal views, and the recently renovated rooms, we are truly sorry that several aspects of your experience did not meet your expectations.I personally remember speaking with you during your check-out and would again like to express my sincere apologies for the inconveniences encountered throughout your stay.Regarding your comments about parking and luggage assistance, please allow me to clarify that our hotel does offer valet parking upon request. However, we do not provide porter service, and this is not advertised as part of our facilities. That said, our team always remains available to assist guests with their luggage whenever possible.Concerning the air conditioning issue in your rooms, I can confirm that our Front Office team and Front Office Manager were informed and involved, and our Maintenance Manager was contacted as soon as possible to address the matter. I understand that this situation caused frustration, especially as you visited during a particularly busy high-season period. While this is not an excuse, I sincerely apologize if you felt your concerns were not handled with the urgency you expected. We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding the breakfast service and your experience at Midtown Grill. Please rest assured that your comments were shared internally and taken constructively. Since you first shared your feedback approximately five months ago, our breakfast service has improved significantly, and the concept of our restaurant has also changed. With regards to the payment situation upon departure, as discussed during check-out, our intention was to make the departure process as smooth and quick as possible for you, especially considering the concerns already raised during your stay. Unfortunately, this resulted in us only realizing afterward that the credit card on file had not processed correctly, which is why we had to contact you later with a payment link. I completely understand how frustrating this must have felt after an already disappointing experience, and I sincerely apologize for this additional inconvenience. While we regret that your stay did not fully meet expectations, I would like to reassure you that both your feedback and your loyalty are truly valued. The compensation provided at the time, together with this response, reflects our genuine commitment to learning from this experience and improving wherever possible.Thank you once again for sharing your feedback with us, and we hope that one day we may have the opportunity to restore your confidence in our hotel.Kind regards,VictoriaGuest Relations Executive

We had a pleasant stay at Marriott Hotel Ghent. The hotel’s cleanliness was very good — I would rate it 4 stars for overall upkeep and comfort. Our room was well-maintained and tidy throughout our stay. The breakfast was okay, but I would rate it 3 stars. There weren’t many choices for a continental breakfast, and the selection could be improved for more variety. The best part of this hotel is definitely the location — 5 stars! It is perfectly situated near Graslei and Korenlei, and within easy walking distance to many restaurants, shops, and beautiful churches. It’s an ideal base for exploring Ghent.Overall, a great stay mainly because of its excellent location. On a scale of 1 to 10 . . . I rate this trip an 11! Simply PERFECT

    rating06 Apr 2026

One of the best hotel experiences we have enjoyed during our global travels for sure. We stayed for 3 nights and truly did not want to leave. Ghent Marriott hotel is in the perfect location, situated along the main canal that runs throughout historic area of Ghent. So much to do and see, and everything is within walking distance. In fact, you walk out of the back side of the hotel, and you are at the main canal where everything happens. The hotel is extremely beautiful and well built, with much open space to enjoy yourself. Also, once inside your room, it is so quiet . . . meaning restful, and such a good night's sleep. The lounge area is very relaxing and at the restaurant each morning we enjoyed a great breakfast to begin our day. What truly separates Ghent Marriott is its people. Staying 3 nights, we got to know several associates that were ALWAYS friendly, personable, and helpful . . . and always with a smile. A big THANK YOU to everyone, although we got to know a few Marriott associates by name, and to them a personal thank you: Pascal - amazing at hosting us at breakfast as always calling us by our names and remembering our habits, with great service . . . also good at making us laugh; Katrien - thank you for the extremely thoughtful note in our room (we were in town to run the Gent Marathon) with a few thoughtful gestures (so much appreciated) - - - I know it is on behalf of everyone, although you were the driving force (and I saved your note to remind me of kindness and what made hotel truly special - its people); Jasmien - always a beautiful and welcoming smile with kind words every time we walk by reception area, thank you; Brecht - In Training, although you already excel at your position; and Montse - you were our first impression of Marriott Ghent - thanks for your kindness, and getting us off to a great start. Our stay was more than a stay; it was an experience. Thanks to everyone at Ghent Marriott Hotel. Scott & Jill. Ghent Marriott Hotel, General Manager at Ghent Marriott Hotel, responded to this review Dear Scott & Jill,Thank you so much for your truly wonderful review. We are absolutely delighted to read that your stay with us was such a memorable experience and that you enjoyed our location, comfort, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel during your three nights in Ghent. Great hotel for a family with a baby!

    rating01 Mar 2026

We stayed at the Marriott for one night on our way to Amsterdam (from the UK) It was myself, my husband and our (almost) 7 month old baby. The Parking when we arrived was so easy and cheaper than we thought. We had a beautiful view of the canal from our room and our room was very spacious. Having a baby that is bottle fed, the temperature on the kettle was actually a really great thing to have and the rooms felt really well sound proofs when you have a baby who can cry! The best thing however was the room service! I had a steak and my husband had the cod. We also had a bottle of rose and it was all absolutely delicious! It came quickly too. It was a little on the cold side but I think we were quite a walk from the kitchen so we didn't mind. It was our favourite hotel of the trip and we stayed at the Sofitel in Amsterdam and the Cassellberg in Bruges. Check in and Check out were easy and they set up a cot with sheets in the room for us. Thank you Marriott for making our stay with a baby so easy and comfortable.
