  Nice if you like to sleep on a building site

  Stayed here for 4 nights , lovely hotel and the staff were lovely and in a good location. However next to hotel there is a massive building project going on which starts stupid early in the morning . One morning it started at 5.30 am they were putting up a huge crain and didnt finish till 17.00 hrs stayed out all day cause of the noise in hotel. We did asked to move rooms as we were right next to the site, they did give us another room but could still hear the noise. At breakfast all guest were talking about the noise wherevever you were it was loud.Rooms are so warm that you have to have the window open adding to the noise you can hear.

  Comfortable and unique rooms in a great location

  Ghent River Hotel is made up of several buildings renovated to provide a modern feel while still keeping historic details and charm. The room I stayed in was in a very old building (200-300 years according to the front desk clerk). The room was huge and had some cool architectural features. It was extremely comfortable and the robes and slippers were a nice touch. The breakfast was excellent, both in terms of selection and quality of items. The location is excellent, footsteps from Vrijdagmarkt and a short walk from nearly anywhere else you’d want to go, including the Christmas market.

  The hotel is located in an old warehouse on the riverfront in central Ghent.The rooms are comfortably and nicely decorated. Oak beams and cast-iron pillars from the old warehouse are visible in the rooms.I had a room with a river view, which was very nice, however, it was somewhat annoying with the noise from the never-ending flow of tour boats passing just outside the window.The hotel does not have its own restaurant, which can be a minus for the business traveller. However, there’s an abundance of restaurants, cafés, brasseries and bars at the nearby Vrijdagmarkt and along the riverfront.The hotel does not have its own parking facilities, however, there’s a public parking area just opposite the hotel, and there’s also a public underground parking facility at the Vrijdagmarkt within 50-60 m. distance from the hotel.

  Noisy location, but in the heart of Ghent.

  Although the staff at this hotel were professional and pleasant the reason for the low score is that of three nights there, we were only to have a single restful night of sleep;. Our room was located at the front of the hotel across from a bar that stays open till 2am and a dance hall around the corner that had people shouting outside til 06:30am. Since the temperature in our room was controlled not to go below 20C/68F, the room was too warm for us. Due to the noise outside we could not open the windows. I have voiced this issue with the manager Mr. Destray by email but received no response.

  Wonderful location on the canal within a few yards of the old city

  We had two nights at this good standard hotel very close to the old city centre and all the attractions.The bedroom was very clean,simply furnished with lovely brickwork and original wooden ceiling with iron column supports.The beautiful modern top floor breakfast room is delightful with views over the river and outside tables.We can honestly say that the breakfasts were some of the best we have ever experienced with an amazing choice of high quality produce.We would thoroughly recommend this quality hotel.Only one word of warning,check exactly where your room is located as the adjacent site is being developed and can be noisy with the contractors starting early.This is a big site and building work could easily take 18 months plus.Don’t be put off just check the room you are allocated because you won’t be disappointed.
