False prices, poor hospitality, no response from management

    rating11 Mar 2025

Hugely frustrated to be writing this but this hotel is a joke in terms of customer service. I actually wondered if maybe they'd gone out of business. I had an awful experience and had expected to hear from the manager, so I then emailed the next day when I hadn't heard anything....I then emailed again, and again. Not even a rude email, just saying I'm expecting to hear from you about my experience. I then go to their Facebook page and message them there, hilariously their response said please email us because the response will be much quicker that way and they provided the same email address I'd been emailing without reply. I told them that in the FB msg but no reply. Anyway, I found this hotel on my train ride but their mobile site wouldn't let me book the room that showed available, or any rom at all for any date. So I walked from the train station to the hotel in the POURING RAIN. I arrived looking like a drown rat and showed them the room that was showing available on their website, expecting them to just book me that rate. Simple. The guy says "oh our mobile website doesn't work to book". Ok maybe say that on on your mobile site since it brings you to the booking page and tell you booking direct is best?? Or fix it??? Ok, well let's book this rate for a single with breakfast I'm literally showing you on the website right now. Nope, we don't have that -- we only have something that is like $50 more! I push back a couple times, anyone good at hospitality would just honor what the website is showing, even if I hadn't just walked all the way from the station and was clearly drenched. But nope. I say ok, well I assume this rate at least includes breakfast. Nope. Again, this was something easy he could do to make it even partially right. I then asked can I speak with a manager etc. Wouldn't even give me an email address, I see now that would have been pointless since no response. Finally I give up and take the room for $50 more than their site was showing. This guy also smelled of body odor. Then I say oK can I have my complimentary drink, which the website clearly mentions. Even that he acted like was a big deal, and as if he was being nice by giving me that.I get to my room and there is NO hand soap -- only shampoo, in the place where hand soap should be. I ask the front desk, thinking it will take a few minutes....took him 30 min to find me hand soap. The next morning, I noticed while they were cleaning that the room next to me also had shampoo at the sink and no hand soap. Also housekeeping had piled up dirty towels in the hallway. Avoid this place, room also didn't seem that clean.

    Going downhill

    rating09 Aug 2024

Just spent 4 nights here, the beds were only made 1 time, they just changed the towels. We had a kitchenette in the room and washing up was never done so after 2 days had to ask for soap so I could it myself. Very dirty floor, picture of my slippers after 4 days. Very dirty windows and curtains with mould. This was our third visit and things have definitely gone downhill. Very creaky floorboards as well. Not sure I will stay here again. Most staff nice, good location and nice bar.

Lovely hotel with some weird quirks

    rating20 Jul 2024

The Leopold is an internally stunning hotel, usefully close to the beach and the Kursaal. I realise that the shape of the rooms is dictated by the shape of the building, but mine had some annoying quirks. For example, no soap at the wash basin, so you have to leap across the room into the shower to squeeze some from the wall-mounted dispenser. The towels are in the toilet. There is no flat surface to write on. One of the shelves wastes space by gluing a tissue box in the middle. There are three electric sockets, one halfway up the wall, so there is nowhere to attach the kettle, and two you have to get down on your knees to use. I am too old for that. Sorry to nitpick. The staff are mostly lovely, but if you are on reception and on the phone, at least acknowledge the guest standing in front of you, trying to check in, while you are completing your phone call.

Nice hotel, close to beach, casino and city Centre

    rating25 Dec 2023

Nice hotel close to everything you need in the city. Parking is not availble outside hotel for any longer than an hour but there's plenty of parking houses close by.Reception/bar were very friendly, lift is a little small if you have lots of luggage. We did not have breakfast included this time at this hotel.

    Clean and friendly hotel

    rating21 Jul 2023

A lovely hotel in a convenient location. Close enough to the restaurants/shops/beach that you can walk in a couple of minutes. We arrived by train and walked from the train station- only took about 10 minutes.Hotel looks impressive from outside, reception is welcoming. Our triple room was upgraded to a studio, with a fridge and cooking facilities. The room was a good size and was spotless clean. The breakfast selection was good and in lovely surroundings. A waffle machine went down well with my 12 year old and I like a hot chocolate with my breakfast. The bar in reception was a hit with my hubby for a couple of drinks before bed too. All in all, we were well catered for.
