    Great place to stay!

    rating17 May 2026

What an absolute wonderful place to stay. My husband and I spent a week here and had an amazing time. We are gluten free and the staff here went above and beyond to make sure we had gluten free options on the continental breakfast every day as well as for dinner. The food was spectacular. We did quite a few excursions and the guides were so nice and fun to spend time with. We cant wait to return. The one and only downside, was the lack of air conditioning in the room, which we knew about before booking. It was hot, but everything else was so spectacular that it didn't even matter.

    Magical Jungle Getaway

    rating02 May 2026

After several days at Ambergris Caye, we wanted to slow down and experience the beauty of inner Belize. My gosh did Mystic River exceed expectations. The resort is adorable. Nestled in the jungle along the Macal River, the resort property is among the most beautiful we have ever experienced. Imagine going to breakfast and every day, being greeted by keel-billed toucans! The property is a bird watcher's paradise. The staff was incredible. Marko, Darvin, Jason and the rest of the team went above and beyond to make our stay most special. So many wonderful little touches, like delivering a basket with coffee and biscuits to your cabin door every morning (we booked the Cloud 9 room). The staff made booking excursions completely stress free. The resort recently hired two new chefs. For dinner, you are offered several appetizer and dinner selections (changes nightly). While this sounds limiting, trust us that it is not because the dishes are creative and taste outstanding. Service from the staff is spot on. In summary, if you are looking for a party atmosphere and fast pace, this will not be your place. But if you wish to experience nature at its finest, with a staff that really is invested in your well-being, look no further.

Disappointed has potential -needs new management

    rating20 Apr 2026

We were very excited to stay at Mystic River, but ultimately the experience was disappointing. From the booking stage, we already had issues. It is hugely expensive. As a family of five with kids aged 10, 9, and 6, it is hard to find a single room. I asked them if that was possible, but they denied my request. So we had to book two rooms at a total cost of $3,184 USD—an amount I do not find worth it at all. This amount excludes most food, except for a very average continental breakfast, but I’ll get to that. They put us in two rooms next to each other. Upon arrival, we realized that with a bit of management, all five of us could have fit into one room.Regarding the food, our bill every morning was at least $50 USD, as we had to order extra food at U.S. prices. Yes, the menu is in USD. Since you are about a 25-minute drive from San Ignacio, they know you will likely eat at their restaurant. We only did so one night, and it was very mediocre, with not very exciting vegetarian options. They also offer excursions. Some are free, like bird watching, which I would recommend. The others are hugely overpriced—you are better off renting a car and going yourself. We had an issue with being overcharged for one excursion, but they did refund us and apologized. As for the staff, I would highly compliment Florita, a waitress at the restaurant, and Marlyn, a guide. They are super friendly and helpful. The rest of the staff, and especially the manager (Nisa/Misa), have massive room for improvement. He was ignorant, and no one checked in on us. When dealing with the overcharging issue, he had a “don’t bother me, I don’t care” attitude. It really left a bitter taste in my mouth at checkout, especially in front of my family. There were also issues in the room (see photos): stains on the bedding and holes in the sheets, not to mention broken mosquito/insect nets. Twice, we found a huge scorpion in our room—once on my son’s bed.No one came to check on us, and the rooms were never swept or cleaned. There were rat (or some kind of) droppings on the porch. At the pool area, dirty glasses were left for more than a day until I asked staff to remove them.Don’t be fooled—this is not a 5-star resort. 3 stars at best. The only highlights were the setting in the jungle, surrounded by amazing nature and wonderful birdlife. There is great potential, but the owner needs to step in and fix it.⸻ Managers Mystic, General Manager at Mystic River Resort, responded to this review Dear Wietsche,Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback following your recent stay at Mystic River Resort. While we are truly pleased to hear that you enjoyed the natural beauty of our jungle setting and the surrounding birdlife, we are genuinely sorry that your overall experience did not meet expectations.Regarding your booking experience, we would like to respectfully clarify that after carefully reviewing our correspondence, there was no inquiry requesting a single-room accommodation. Based on the information provided at the time, our team recommended two rooms, and this option was gladly accepted. Had a preference for a single-room arrangement been communicated, we would have gladly explored available options to better accommodate your family’s needs. We understand how important room configuration is when traveling together, and we are reviewing how we present these options more clearly. We would also like to sincerely apologize for the shortcomings you encountered, particularly with room condition, housekeeping, and service consistency. What you described does not reflect the standard we aim to provide, and your comments have been shared with our management and operations teams for immediate review and corrective action. Cleanliness, maintenance, and guest comfort are areas we are actively reinforcing to ensure this is not repeated. We appreciate your feedback on dining and pricing as well. While our remote jungle location does impact sourcing and logistics, we recognize the importance of delivering both quality and value. Your comments regarding menu variety, especially vegetarian options, and breakfast offerings have been noted and will be part of ongoing improvements. We are glad that the overcharge on your excursion was addressed promptly, but we regret the frustration it caused. Additionally, we are disappointed to hear about your interaction with management, as this is not the level of hospitality we strive to extend to our guests. This matter is being taken seriously and addressed internally. On a positive note, we are grateful for your kind recognition of Florita and Marlon. We will be sure to pass along your compliments to them.Your feedback is invaluable to us. Mystic River Resort is continuously evolving, and insights like yours help us identify where we must do better. We truly hope you might consider giving us another opportunity in the future to provide the experience you had originally anticipated.Sincerely,Nadege Thomas, ProprietorMystic River Resort

    FABULOUS!

    rating19 Apr 2026

FABULOUS! The setting, the tranquility, the amenities, the staff, all were wonderful. A special shout out to Gio, Marco, Flora, Nigel, Steve, and Reyna all of whom went above and beyond. Our guides Mike and Marlon were generous with their knowledge of all things. Mystic River and its staff are a definite 10!

    Perfect base for jungle tours.

    rating12 Apr 2026

Rustic, but very enjoyable. Make sure you do the night hike and ATM tour. Bring plenty of mosquito repellent. The rooms have fans but no A/C. With the windows open, you start to hear all the animals in the morning, so bring ear plugs. Rooms were clean, with ample storage. Service was attentive. Plunge pool is really shallow, not really a pool as much as a foot bath, but they have a nice pool. Overall, I still recommend it.
